Introducing Catalyst: AI for Certified Translations

AI has unleashed fundamental change upon many industries, but many of the processes for translating documents for legal purposes, such as immigration or litigation, have remained the same. Until now. 

Traditional machine translation models and even modern LLM-based translation models do not render elements in their output in a way that mirrors the source material, which is often a requirement for a certified translation. This is especially true for non-digital documents.

Translators working on certified translations will often spend the majority of their time handling formatting and element recreation. This process, while important, introduces room for errors — transcription typos, omitted text, etc.

Optical character recognition has longed been used by translators to convert scanned documents into digital text, but with little regard for element ordering, especially in the context of right-to-left languages. OCR will also degrade when scan quality is not sufficient, a common problem for the clients we serve.

Catalyst is an AI tool developed by ImmiTranslate to translate scanned or hard-to-read documents and generate a certified translation draft, ready for human translator review and sign-off. 

Catalyst leverages a decade of experience translating hundreds of thousands of documents for clients globally. Combining a sophisticated transformer-based OCR with both multimodal and text-based LLMs, Catalyst can accurately produce certified translations in seconds and achieves human-level accuracy.

We built Catalyst to solve these issues and redefine the technology surrounding certified translations. Today, we are announcing it publicly and making it available to interested parties through an Early Access Program. We will continue to utilize Catalyst internally for our clients without any change in pricing.
