Certificate of Translation
A certificate of translation is the signed statement attached to a translated document. It says the translation is complete and accurate and that the translator is competent in both languages. Below is the certificate we attach to every order, with each part explained.
What a certificate of translation must say
Requirements differ by recipient, but most U.S. offices look for the same few things:
-
The document being translated and the two languages.
-
A statement that the translator is competent in both languages.
-
A statement that the translation is complete and accurate.
-
The translator's signature, printed name and the date.
Our certificate, part by part
- Heading and document line. “Certification of Translation Accuracy”, followed by the document title and the language pair.
- Company statement. ImmiTranslate certifies that a qualified translator fluent in both languages produced a complete and accurate translation. It includes our American Translators Association corporate member ID, 268442.
- Independence. A line stating the document was not translated for a family member, friend or business associate.
- Scope. The certificate covers the translation only. It does not vouch for the original document.
- Translator's statement. The translator names the language pair, confirms they are competent in it and signs.
- Signatures, dates and stamp. Signed by a company representative and by the translator, with our certification stamp.
USCIS certificate of translation
USCIS does not publish an official form. Under 8 CFR 103.2(b)(3), any certificate works if the translator states they are competent to translate from the foreign language into English and that the translation is complete and accurate. Notarization is not required. Immigration courts ask for a certificate of translation in the same way. Our USCIS translations include this certificate and our acceptance guarantee.
Can you use a template instead?
You can. The rule does not require a professional, and a template only supplies the wording. The translation still has to be complete and accurate, and one by the applicant or a relative is easier for an officer to question.
If you would rather hand it off, our certified translation service costs $25 per page of up to 250 words, with this certificate included. You review the draft before it is final.
