Arabic criminal record translation to English for a consular visa through the National Visa Center, a USCIS filing, an adoption or a US employer, and into Arabic for a court abroad. We translate police certificates from Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Yemen, Sudan and the Maghreb, and the court judgments that go with them when there is a record.
Each country issues a different paper, and the NVC names the one it wants
The State Department's reciprocity table lists one police document per country, and the translation has to call it by that name so the officer can match it.
Egypt: the صحيفة الحالة الجنائية
Egypt's police certificate is the صحيفة الحالة الجنائية from the Ministry of Interior, known to everyone as the فيش وتشبيه because it is issued after fingerprinting. It is addressed to a stated purpose, typically للتقديم إلى السفارة الأمريكية, and a certificate taken out for a job in the Gulf does not serve for a visa. Applicants in the US request it through an Egyptian consulate. We translate the addressee line, the national ID number and the result line exactly as printed, and the fingerprint officer's stamp with it.
Jordan, Iraq, Syria and Lebanon
Jordan issues a شهادة عدم محكومية through the Public Security Directorate's Criminal Information Department, and Iraq a certificate of the same name through the police. Syria's document is the بيان لا حكم عليه from the Ministry of Justice, a one-line statement that no judgment stands against the person, and Lebanon's is an extract of the سجل عدلي, the judicial record, which lists sentences only. The title on the translation follows the Arabic, so a judicial record extract is not presented as a police clearance it is not.
When there is a record: جنحة, جناية and حكم غيابي
A certificate that shows an entry gives the court, the offence, the date and the sentence in a few words, and the words matter. A جنحة is a misdemeanor and a جناية a felony, حبس and سجن are different grades of imprisonment, and a حكم غيابي is a judgment given in absentia, common in Egypt for unpaid cheques and often reopened once the person appears. A رد اعتبار entry means standing was restored after the sentence. We translate each term with the Arabic in brackets and do not soften it, and we translate the judgment itself when the consulate asks for it.
Who is asking for your Arabic criminal record translation?
The translation is the same. What changes is whether the recipient wants anything added to it.
USCIS and the National Visa Center
Consular processing asks for police certificates with a complete English translation and a signed certification. No notarization is needed.
IRCC accepts a certified translation with the translator's affidavit. Order the certified translation and add notarization if your application guide asks for it.
Three things that save a day of back and forth on a Arabic criminal record.
01
Get the certificate first, then the translation
Most police certificates are valid for a few months. Have the certificate issued, then upload it, so the translation and the original are current together.
02
Check which authority the checklist names
A state letter, a federal letter and a court record are different documents. Read the consulate or USCIS checklist and send the one it asks for, or all of them.
03
Keep the QR code and verification number in the scan
Online certificates carry a QR code or a verification code. They are translated with the rest and are how a consulate confirms the document is genuine.
Details and pricing
What is included in a Arabic criminal record translation
One price per page covers the translation and its certification. A page is up to 250 words, and the quote tells you the page count before you pay.
Everything on the criminal record is translated, including stamps, seals and handwritten notes. Tell us the English spelling you use for each name when you order.
I left Egypt as a teenager. Do I still need an Egyptian police certificate?
It depends on your age when you lived there. The State Department asks applicants aged 16 or older for a certificate from each country where they lived for a set period after turning 16, and the reciprocity page for Egypt gives the rule. If you left before 16, you may not need one. If you do, it is requested through an Egyptian consulate and comes back in Arabic.
How long is an Arabic police certificate valid?
Offices in Egypt and Lebanon often treat their certificates as valid for about three months, and the NVC sets its own rule on how recent a certificate must be, so check the reciprocity page for your country. The translation is dated the day it is certified and does not extend or shorten the original's validity, so order it as soon as the certificate issues and send both together.
Do you translate a US court record into Arabic for a case abroad?
Yes. An Egyptian or Lebanese court deciding custody, an inheritance dispute or a divorce may ask for a US conviction record or a certificate of disposition in Arabic, and so may a Gulf employer or sponsor. We translate the record into Arabic with the US court's name and the case number kept in English beside the Arabic. Most of those courts also want the document apostilled or legalized first, so ask the lawyer handling the case before ordering.
How much does a certified translation cost?
Certified translation is $25 per page, with a page counted as up to 250 words. Notarization, a mailed physical copy and an apostille are optional and priced separately.
How long does a certified translation take?
Standard turnaround starts at 24 hours and depends on the length and language of your documents. If you have a deadline, include it in your quote request.
