Arabic birth certificate translation to English for USCIS, with the four-part name chain spelled the way your passport spells it. We translate certificates from every Arabic-speaking country, including bilingual Arabic and French records from the Maghreb.
One language, a different certificate in each country
An Egyptian certificate, a Syrian extract and a Moroccan bilingual extrait are different documents, and the translation has to say which one it is.
Egypt and Iraq
Egypt issues the computerized شهادة ميلاد with the national ID number, the governorate and the mother's full name. Iraq's certificate from the civil status directorate has the same facts on a stamped form, often with a handwritten register number. Older Egyptian certificates are handwritten ledger extracts, and we translate the hand as well as the print.
Syria, Jordan and Lebanon
Syrian applicants usually send a civil register extract rather than the original hospital certificate, and Jordanian and Lebanese records likewise arrive as extracts from the civil status department. We name the document type in English exactly as the Arabic does, so the translation is not mistaken for a certificate it is not.
Which part is the surname
An Egyptian certificate lists the child's given name followed by the father's, grandfather's and great-grandfather's names, with no separate surname field. Gulf and Iraqi records add a tribal or family name at the end. Your passport decides which of these became your surname in Latin letters, and the translation lays the chain out in that order with each part labelled.
Who is asking for your Arabic birth certificate translation?
The translation is the same. What changes is whether the recipient wants anything added to it.
USCIS
USCIS asks for a complete English translation and a signed certification from the translator. No notarization is needed.
Three things that save a day of back and forth on a Arabic birth certificate.
01
Scan the whole page
Include the back, the margins and any marginal notes. A later correction or a recognition of paternity is often written in the margin, and the recipient needs to see it translated.
02
Give us the English spelling of each name
If your passport or green card spells a name without an accent, tell us at checkout. The translation keeps the names as the certificate writes them and notes the spelling you use.
03
Order the format the recipient asked for
If they want the long form, send the long form. We translate what you upload and cannot add parents' details that a short-form extract leaves out.
Details and pricing
What is included in a Arabic birth certificate translation
One price per page covers the translation and its certification. A page is up to 250 words, and the quote tells you the page count before you pay.
Everything on the birth certificate is translated, including stamps, seals and handwritten notes. Tell us the English spelling you use for each name when you order.
How do you spell names from an Arabic birth certificate?
The way your passport does, and the same way on every page of the order. Arabic has no fixed Latin spelling, so Yousef, Youssef and Yusuf are one name. Where a parent or grandparent has no passport spelling, we use a standard transliteration and keep it consistent across the family.
The certificate was issued recently but I was born decades ago. Is that a problem?
No. Many countries issue a fresh computerized certificate or a register extract on request, dated the day it was printed. The translation shows the issue date and the birth date as separate fields, exactly as the Arabic does, so a reader can see it is a current copy of an old entry.
Do you translate the French half of a Moroccan or Algerian certificate?
Yes, under the same order. Maghreb certificates are often bilingual, and some are French only, in which case the order goes in as French. If the Arabic and the French disagree on a spelling, we follow the passport and note the variant.
How much does a certified translation cost?
Certified translation is $25 per page, with a page counted as up to 250 words. Notarization, a mailed physical copy and an apostille are optional and priced separately.
How long does a certified translation take?
Standard turnaround starts at 24 hours and depends on the length and language of your documents. If you have a deadline, include it in your quote request.
