Arabic diploma translation to English for a credential evaluator, an employer, a state licensing board, ECFMG or a graduate school, and into Arabic for degree equivalency in Saudi Arabia, the UAE or Egypt. We translate the graduation certificate and the degree itself from universities across the Arab world, with the degree title kept as the institution named it.
Three words for a degree, and what دبلوم means in Egypt
The title on an Arabic degree certificate tells an evaluator what kind of program it was, and a loose translation loses that.
بكالوريوس, ليسانس and إجازة
Egyptian universities award a بكالوريوس in the sciences, engineering, medicine and commerce, and a ليسانس in arts, law and education; both are four-year or longer first degrees. Syrian universities call the first degree an إجازة, as in إجازة في الحقوق. We keep the Arabic title in brackets next to the English, so an evaluator reads a Licence in Law as a bachelor's and not as a license to practise, and we give the faculty and the field exactly as printed.
The two meanings of دبلوم
In Egypt a دبلوم can be a secondary vocational certificate, the three or five year دبلوم فني from a commercial, industrial or agricultural school, or a postgraduate diploma taken after a bachelor's. The two sit at opposite ends of a career, and a translation that says only diploma leaves the evaluator guessing. We translate the issuing school or faculty and the level the certificate names, so a دبلوم دراسات عليا and a technical school certificate are never confused.
Temporary certificates and attestation stamps
Most Arab universities hand graduates a شهادة مؤقتة or إفادة تخرج first, and the final degree certificate months later; evaluators accept either if it names the degree and the date of graduation. Degrees used abroad usually carry attestations: the Egyptian Supreme Council of Universities and Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Iraqi Ministry of Higher Education, the Saudi Ministry of Education. Every stamp and its date is translated, since evaluators check them.
Who is asking for your Arabic diploma translation?
The translation is the same. What changes is whether the recipient wants anything added to it.
Credential evaluators
WES, ECE and similar services ask for a word-for-word certified translation sent with the original. The degree name stays in the original language beside the English.
Physicians trained abroad send their diploma and transcript through ECFMG, which asks for an English translation of every document that is not in English.
Three things that save a day of back and forth on a Arabic diploma.
01
Scan the back of the diploma
Registration numbers, the ministry stamp and the book and folio entries are often printed on the reverse. Send both sides.
02
Send the companion document
A professional license, a graduation act or a transcript often goes with the diploma. Upload the set so the numbers and dates are translated consistently.
03
Tell us who the translation is for
An evaluator, a licensing board and a university each read the degree name differently. Say in the order notes where it is going.
Details and pricing
What is included in a Arabic diploma translation
One price per page covers the translation and its certification. A page is up to 250 words, and the quote tells you the page count before you pay.
Everything on the diploma is translated, including stamps, seals and handwritten notes. Tell us the English spelling you use for each name when you order.
I have a بكالوريوس الطب والجراحة. Is that a medical degree for ECFMG?
Egyptian, Sudanese, Iraqi and Jordanian medical schools award the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery, written MBBCh or MBBS, after a six-year program and a year of internship. ECFMG treats it as the primary medical qualification, and our translation keeps the degree exactly as the certificate names it with the Arabic in brackets. If the certificate is already in English, as many are, you need a translation only for the Arabic stamps.
Do I translate the graduation certificate or the degree certificate?
Whichever one you hold, and both if you have both. The إفادة تخرج or شهادة مؤقتة confirms the degree, the date and the overall grade, and is often the only paper a graduate has for a year or more. If the evaluator later wants the final certificate, that is a separate page at $25. Send the back too if it carries stamps.
Do you translate a US degree into Arabic for a job in Saudi Arabia or the UAE?
Yes. Degree equivalency (معادلة) from the Saudi Ministry of Education or the UAE Ministry of Education asks for the US diploma attested by the state, the US Department of State and the country's embassy, then translated into Arabic. Egyptian employers and the Supreme Council of Universities ask for the same chain. We translate the diploma and its attestations and can notarize the translation.
How much does a certified translation cost?
Certified translation is $25 per page, with a page counted as up to 250 words. Notarization, a mailed physical copy and an apostille are optional and priced separately.
How long does a certified translation take?
Standard turnaround starts at 24 hours and depends on the length and language of your documents. If you have a deadline, include it in your quote request.
