When INZ asks for a certified translation
Immigration New Zealand's translation requirements depend on the application and document. Its current guidance requires resident-visa supporting documents to be in English or accompanied by certified English translations. Medical and police certificates that are not in English also require certified translations under the guidance.
For visitor applications, translations of other supporting documents do not generally need certification. That distinction matters when you request a quote: describe your visa application and identify whether each file is a police certificate, medical certificate or another supporting record. Include any specific translation request you have received from INZ.
Follow the current instructions for your application, including who may translate the documents and what information the translation must contain. Do not assume that a relative's application or a different visa category has the same requirements. This service translates supplied records; it does not determine eligibility, select your visa route or guarantee an immigration decision.
INZ guidance on English translations
Records for your application
Use your application instructions to choose the records you need translated. Your selected set may include civil records, police or background records, bank statements or medical documents. Include complete copies and any attachments or reverse-side entries that belong to the selected record.
Label documents for different applicants and identify the source language where you know it. If the same document appears in more than one file, mention the duplicate. These examples describe possible translation work, not a list of documents every INZ applicant must submit. The records required for your application come from its own instructions.
Translator details and name spellings
Provide the name spellings already used in your passport or application and explain which person each record concerns. Send any instructions about translator identification, declarations or certification with your quote request. The proposed deliverable should be checked against those instructions before you place the order.
If names differ across the source documents, flag the difference rather than editing the original files. A translation follows the supplied record and does not correct civil records or establish identity. Ask your adviser or the receiving authority how to address an inconsistency that affects your application before relying on a changed document.
Request a quote for your INZ documents
Send the selected records, identify the target language as English where required, and tell us your desired deadline. State your application category and include any specific message from INZ requesting translation. This helps distinguish a general visitor supporting record from a document that needs certified translation.
Review the quoted scope, certification request and delivery details together before ordering. Our birth certificate, background check, bank statement and medical record pages also cover those individual documents. If your request changes after an additional record is requested, provide the new file with the updated instructions so the translation scope remains clear.
