Arabic college application translation for a student applying to a US college or university from an Arabic-medium school in Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Iraq, Yemen, Sudan or the Gulf. We translate the secondary certificate, the year-by-year school records, the leaving certificate and the teachers' letters that the Common App or the admissions office asks for.
What an Arab secondary school file looks like to a US admissions office
A US high school sends one transcript. An Arabic-medium school produces a final exam certificate from the ministry, separate yearly records from the school, and little else unless asked, so the application is assembled piece by piece.
The final exam certificate
Egypt's شهادة إتمام الدراسة الثانوية العامة from the Ministry of Education gives the total mark, a percentage and a branch, علمي علوم, علمي رياضة or أدبي. Jordan's توجيهي certificate gives an average and a stream, and in Saudi Arabia the school certificate is joined by the قدرات and تحصيلي scores from the National Center for Assessment. Syria's الشهادة الثانوية reports a total out of a fixed maximum. The translation states the maximum beside each total, since an admissions reader cannot judge 86 without knowing out of what.
Yearly records and conduct
The school's own file for the earlier years is a set of yearly كشف درجات or a single بيان حالة دراسية listing grades for each year with the school stamp. Many also carry a conduct grade, السلوك, and the school will write a شهادة حسن سير وسلوك, a good conduct letter, on request. We translate the yearly records in date order so a reader can follow the student from grade 10 to graduation. Schools in the Gulf often add an English column; schools in Egypt, Syria and Yemen do not.
Teacher letters and the other direction
Recommendation letters are not a habit at most Arabic-medium schools, so a student who asks often receives a short formal letter on school paper in Arabic. We translate it in full with the signature block and stamp, since the Common App wants the teacher's words rather than a summary. Americans applying the other way, to Al-Azhar, a Saudi university or an Arabic program in Jordan, need their diploma and transcript in Arabic, and we translate those too.
Who is asking for your Arabic college application translation?
The translation is the same. What changes is whether the recipient wants anything added to it.
Universities and admissions offices
Admissions offices accept a certified translation they can read next to the original. A PDF is usually enough; ask for a hard copy if they want one.
Applicants to US medical programs send transcripts and diplomas through ECFMG, which asks for an English translation of every document that is not in English.
Three things that save a day of back and forth on a Arabic college application.
01
Send the whole packet in one order
Transcripts, the diploma, recommendation letters and the grading scale travel together. One order keeps the names, dates and course titles consistent across every page.
02
Separate the records from your essays
Admissions offices want official records translated word for word. Essays and statements are usually written in English by the applicant, so upload only what the school will read as evidence.
03
Count on more than one page per sheet
A transcript or a course description holds a lot of text. The quote counts words, not sheets, so a dense sheet may price as two or three pages.

What is included in a Arabic college application translation
One price per page covers the translation and its certification. A page is up to 250 words, and the quote tells you the page count before you pay.
Everything on the college application is translated, including stamps, seals and handwritten notes. Tell us the English spelling you use for each name when you order.
The ministry's final certificate, both sides, and the school's year-by-year record. Those two are what nearly every US college and credential evaluator asks for. Add the conduct certificate and teacher letters only when the application lists them, and leave the primary school certificates out unless an office asks. Each page of up to 250 words is $25, so start with the pages the checklist names.
Is a Thanaweya Amma or Tawjihi certificate a high school diploma?
US colleges treat it as proof of secondary completion and as the exam score together, since it is both: the certificate is issued by the ministry on the strength of the national exam, not by the school. The branch printed on it, علمي or أدبي, tells the reader which subjects were examined. We translate the certificate in full and leave the comparison to the admissions office or the evaluator it uses.
My school was an international school in the Gulf and most records are already in English. What do I need?
Usually only the pages or stamps that are in Arabic: the ministry equivalency letter (معادلة), the Arabic language and Islamic studies lines on an otherwise English report, or an attestation stamp from the Ministry of Education. We translate just those pages and leave the English pages alone, so you pay for the Arabic that needs reading.
How much does a certified translation cost?
Certified translation is $25 per page, with a page counted as up to 250 words. Notarization, a mailed physical copy and an apostille are optional and priced separately.
How long does a certified translation take?
Standard turnaround starts at 24 hours and depends on the length and language of your documents. If you have a deadline, include it in your quote request.
