Chinese college application translation to English for a US undergraduate or graduate application: the 在读证明, the 推荐信 a 班主任 wrote in Chinese, award certificates and the 学信网 reports that a Chinese school or university issues alongside the transcript. Each is certified so the admissions office can file it.

The Chinese papers behind a US application
A Chinese applicant is asked for the same things as anyone else, but the school produces them in forms a US admissions office has not seen.
在读证明 and 学籍 reports
A 在读证明 is a one-page letter from the school or the university 教务处 confirming that the student is enrolled, in which 专业 and year, with the expected graduation date and a red seal; it is what a US school accepts in place of an enrollment verification. University students can also print the 教育部学籍在线验证报告 from 学信网, with a verification code and an expiry date, and ask for a 排名证明 if a graduate program wants class rank. We translate the letter, the code and the validity line so the admissions office can check it online.
Recommendation letters in Chinese
Many 班主任 and professors write the 推荐信 in Chinese and hand it to the student. A translated letter has to read as the teacher's own voice, so we keep the honorifics, the school's name, the teacher's title, 高级教师 or 教授, and the signature line with the school seal. Chinese letters tend to praise the student's 综合素质 and give a rank within the 年级, and the translation says exactly that instead of rewriting it into American phrasing.
Award certificates and the 综合素质评价
An award certificate names the issuing body and the level, from 校级 up through 市级 and 省级 to 国家级, and that level is what an admissions reader is judging. A 三好学生 or 优秀学生干部 certificate comes from the school or the district education bureau, and 全国中学生 Olympiad certificates come from the subject's national society. Provincial 一等奖 goes to many students, so we translate it as first prize, not first place. Many high schools also print a 综合素质评价 record of activities and service under the school seal, which we translate as a table.
Who is asking for your Chinese (Mandarin) Simplified college application translation?
The translation is the same. What changes is whether the recipient wants anything added to it.
Universities and admissions offices
Admissions offices accept a certified translation they can read next to the original. A PDF is usually enough; ask for a hard copy if they want one.
Applicants to US medical programs send transcripts and diplomas through ECFMG, which asks for an English translation of every document that is not in English.
Three things that save a day of back and forth on a Chinese (Mandarin) Simplified college application.
01
Send the whole packet in one order
Transcripts, the diploma, recommendation letters and the grading scale travel together. One order keeps the names, dates and course titles consistent across every page.
02
Separate the records from your essays
Admissions offices want official records translated word for word. Essays and statements are usually written in English by the applicant, so upload only what the school will read as evidence.
03
Count on more than one page per sheet
A transcript or a course description holds a lot of text. The quote counts words, not sheets, so a dense sheet may price as two or three pages.
Details and pricing
What is included in a Chinese (Mandarin) Simplified college application translation
One price per page covers the translation and its certification. A page is up to 250 words, and the quote tells you the page count before you pay.
Everything on the college application is translated, including stamps, seals and handwritten notes. Tell us the English spelling you use for each name when you order.
Will the Common App or a university accept your translation?
Yes, for the supporting documents. US colleges ask that documents not in English come with a certified translation, and ours carries the signed statement they look for. The transcript itself must usually come from the school, sealed, and some colleges want the school to send the English version directly; in that case we translate the Chinese one for the school to seal. Read the international applicant page of each college before you order.
My recommendation letter is confidential. Can my teacher send it to you directly?
Yes. Because a recommendation is meant to stay out of the applicant's hands, some colleges want the school, not the student, to arrange its translation. The 班主任 or the school counselor can place the order, upload the Chinese letter and receive the certified English, then submit both through the college's own system. Check each college's instructions for recommenders, since a few accept a Chinese letter only from the school.
Do you translate US school records into Chinese for a university in China?
Yes. A student returning to China, a 华侨 applicant sitting the 联考 or an international applicant to a Chinese university may be asked for a Chinese version of a US high school transcript, a diploma or a recommendation letter. We translate into Simplified Chinese with the US school's seal described, and we can notarize the translation if the admissions office asks for that.
How much does a certified translation cost?
Certified translation is $25 per page, with a page counted as up to 250 words. Notarization, a mailed physical copy and an apostille are optional and priced separately.
How long does a certified translation take?
Standard turnaround starts at 24 hours and depends on the length and language of your documents. If you have a deadline, include it in your quote request.
