Arabic passport translation to English for USCIS, an asylum office, a DMV or an employer. Most Arab passports print the data page in Arabic and English, so what usually needs translating is the Arabic-only fields, the handwritten pages, and the stamps and visas that show where you have been.
What on an Arabic passport is not already in English
A bilingual data page is not a translated passport. The fields an officer asks about most are often the ones printed in Arabic alone.
Arabic-only fields on the data page
An Egyptian passport gives the holder's occupation (المهنة) in Arabic only, and older ones have a separate page for a spouse and accompanying children filled in by hand. A Saudi passport dates the issue and expiry in Hijri as well as Gregorian. Syrian, Iraqi, Yemeni and Sudanese passports carry the mother's name and the civil register number in Arabic. The translation lays these out field by field, and keeps the Latin spelling of your name exactly as the passport's own English line has it, since that spelling is what every other US form follows.
Entry and exit stamps
For an asylum claim, an I-485 travel history or a naturalization application, the stamps matter more than the data page. Gulf and Egyptian border stamps give the date, the port and the direction in Arabic, sometimes in Hijri, with visa numbers written in Eastern Arabic digits. We translate each stamp as its own entry, in page order, with the date converted and the port named, and mark a stamp illegible rather than guess at a smeared one.
Visas, residence permits and old passports
A Saudi or Emirati work visa, a Jordanian residence sticker or an Egyptian tourist visa pasted into the passport names a sponsor, a profession and a visa type in Arabic. Expired passports from Iraq's old series and prewar Syrian passports are often the only record of a person's earlier travel. Send every page with ink on it; each page of up to 250 words is $25, and a page with two stamps is well under that.
Who is asking for your Arabic passport translation?
The translation is the same. What changes is whether the recipient wants anything added to it.
USCIS
USCIS asks for a complete English translation and a signed certification from the translator. No notarization is needed.
A foreign passport used as proof of identity is accepted with a certified translation of the data page. Digital delivery as a PDF is usually enough; ask for a hard copy if they want one.
A US passport sent abroad for a marriage, a residency permit or a property purchase often needs the translation notarized. Tell us the country in your order notes.
Three things that save a day of back and forth on a Arabic passport.
01
Send the data page and any page with a stamp
The photo page carries the name, number and dates. Visa pages, entry stamps and an amendment page matter too when the recipient is tracing travel history, so include them if the checklist asks.
02
Give us the spelling you use in English
The translation keeps the name as the passport prints it and notes the romanized spelling you use elsewhere. Say which at checkout so the recipient can match the two.
03
Scan it flat with the machine-readable lines in frame
The two lines of characters at the foot of the photo page are copied exactly as printed. A crooked or cropped photo hides them and slows the translator down.
Details and pricing
What is included in a Arabic passport translation
One price per page covers the translation and its certification. A page is up to 250 words, and the quote tells you the page count before you pay.
Everything on the passport is translated, including stamps, seals and handwritten notes. Tell us the English spelling you use for each name when you order.
The data page is already in English. Do I still need a translation for USCIS?
USCIS asks for a full English translation of any document that contains foreign language text, and a data page with an Arabic occupation or a Hijri date counts. Many applicants translate the data page to be safe and add the stamp pages only when a form asks about travel. If an officer has already accepted a bilingual page from you, you can skip it; if you are unsure, the data page is one page at $25.
My name on the Arabic passport is spelled differently from my green card. Which spelling do you use?
The passport's own Latin spelling, because that is the document being translated. If your green card, visa or an earlier passport spells the name another way, tell us at checkout and the translator adds a note recording both spellings, so the file reads as one person rather than two. We never change the Arabic or the English printed on the passport itself.
Can you translate a Palestinian Authority passport or an Iraqi travel document?
Yes. The Palestinian Authority passport, the Iraqi وثيقة سفر issued to people without a passport, and the UN or Red Cross travel papers carried by some refugees are all translated the same way, with the issuing authority named as the document names it. An expired passport is also fine, and is often exactly what an asylum officer wants to see.
How much does a certified translation cost?
Certified translation is $25 per page, with a page counted as up to 250 words. Notarization, a mailed physical copy and an apostille are optional and priced separately.
How long does a certified translation take?
Standard turnaround starts at 24 hours and depends on the length and language of your documents. If you have a deadline, include it in your quote request.
