Chinese transcript translation to English for a university application, a credential evaluation with WES or ECE, a licensing board or an employer, from the 成绩单 issued by a university 教务处, a 研究生院 or a high school. Every course, grade, credit and seal is translated, in the layout the evaluator expects.

What is on a Chinese 成绩单
A Chinese transcript is a table, and most of the difficulty is in the column headings and the grading scale rather than the course names.
Three grading scales on one page
百分制 marks out of 100 with 60 as the pass mark; 五级制 words, 优秀, 良好, 中等, 及格 and 不及格, for excellent, good, fair, pass and fail; and 合格 or 不合格 for pass-or-fail courses such as PE, military training and practicums. We translate the words and leave the numbers alone. Nothing is converted to a US GPA: evaluators want the original scale, and they do the conversion themselves.
Credits, hours and course types
学分 is credits, 学时 is class hours, and the 课程性质 or 课程类别 column marks each course 必修 compulsory, 选修 elective or 限选 restricted elective, 公共课 general or 专业课 major. A 补考 or 重修 note beside a grade means a makeup exam or a retaken course, and some transcripts print the first and the final score side by side. All of it is carried over, including the 总学分 and 平均分 lines at the foot of the table.
毕业证书 and 学位证书 are two documents
A Chinese graduate holds a graduation certificate from the university and, if the degree requirements were also met, a separate degree certificate issued under the 国务院学位委员会. A 专科 three-year graduate has only the first. Evaluators ask for both with the transcript, and we copy each 证书编号 exactly as printed, because those numbers are what the verification reports are matched against.
Who is asking for your Chinese (Mandarin) Simplified academic transcript translation?
The translation is the same. What changes is whether the recipient wants anything added to it.
Credential evaluators
WES, ECE and similar services ask for a word-for-word certified translation of each page, sent alongside the official transcript.
Admissions offices and school districts accept a certified translation they can read next to the original. A PDF is usually enough; ask for a hard copy if they want one.
Three things that save a day of back and forth on a Chinese (Mandarin) Simplified academic transcript.
01
Send the official copy
An evaluator wants the sealed transcript from the registrar, not a self-printed grade list. Order the translation from the same copy the school issues.
02
Include the grading legend
The scale, the pass mark and the credit system are usually printed at the foot or on the back. Send that part too so it is translated with the grades.
03
Expect more than one page per sheet
A transcript sheet holds far more than 250 words. The quote counts words, not sheets, so a two-sheet transcript may price as four or five pages.
Details and pricing
What is included in a Chinese (Mandarin) Simplified academic transcript translation
One price per page covers the translation and its certification. A page is up to 250 words, and the quote tells you the page count before you pay.
Everything on the academic transcript is translated, including stamps, seals and handwritten notes. Tell us the English spelling you use for each name when you order.
WES wants my transcript verified through CHSI. Do I still need a translation?
The verification and the translation are separate. CHSI (学信网, run by the Ministry of Education's CSSD, formerly CHESICC) verifies the Chinese transcript and sends its report to the evaluator. The degree certificate, the 教育部学历证书电子注册备案表 and the 学位在线验证报告 that you upload yourself still need an English translation where they are in Chinese. Check the evaluator's document list for China: it names what must come from CHSI and what you send.
My university gave me an English transcript. Is that enough?
If the 教务处 issued it and sealed it, often yes. Many universities print a bilingual 成绩单, or an English version with the same red seal and a 骑缝章 across the envelope flap. If the English is partial, or it is a student's own translation stamped by the school, the evaluator may ask for a certified translation of the Chinese one. Send us a photo and we tell you which pages need work.
Can you translate a high school transcript and the 高考 score?
Yes. A high school 成绩单, the 学业水平考试 results and the 高考 score report are translated the same way, at $25 a page. Chinese high school transcripts list 必修 and 选修 modules by semester with 学分, and a US admissions office reads them alongside the school's 毕业证书. If the school issued a sealed bilingual version, send that and we translate only what is still in Chinese.
How much does a certified translation cost?
Certified translation is $25 per page, with a page counted as up to 250 words. Notarization, a mailed physical copy and an apostille are optional and priced separately.
How long does a certified translation take?
Standard turnaround starts at 24 hours and depends on the length and language of your documents. If you have a deadline, include it in your quote request.
