Korean college application translation for a student moving from a Korean high school to a US college or graduate program: the teacher comments in the 학교생활기록부, recommendation letters written in Korean, award and volunteer certificates and the 졸업예정증명서, each translated and certified for the admissions office at $25 per page.
Grades are covered on our Korean transcript page. This page is about the rest of the packet: the written evaluations and the certificates behind them.
The written sections of the 학생부
Beyond the grade tables, the 학교생활기록부 runs to ten pages or more of prose: 창의적 체험활동 for clubs and activities, the subject teachers' 세부능력 및 특기사항 and the homeroom teacher's 행동특성 및 종합의견. Teachers write these in a clipped style that drops the subject, so most sentences read "shows curiosity about" with no name in front. We restore the student as the subject in English so the comments read as evaluations of a person, and keep the section headings so a reader can find each teacher's part.
Recommendation letters
A 추천서 from a Korean teacher usually arrives in Korean with the school seal. Many US offices want the letter to come from the teacher, so we deliver the certified translation to you and the teacher sends it with the original. Korean letters open with the teacher's years of knowing the student and close with a formal 추천합니다; we keep that shape rather than recasting it as an American letter, because the reader should see what the teacher wrote.
Awards and volunteer hours
Korean applications lean on certificates: a 상장 with the awarding body and whether the prize was 교내 or 교외, and a 봉사활동 확인서 printed from the 1365 자원봉사포털 or VMS with the organization, the dates and the hours. A 상장 names the grade of the prize, 최우수상, 우수상 or 장려상, which we translate as first, second and honorable mention level and keep in Korean, since US readers cannot rank them otherwise.
Who is asking for your Korean college application translation?
The translation is the same. What changes is whether the recipient wants anything added to it.
Universities and admissions offices
Admissions offices accept a certified translation they can read next to the original. A PDF is usually enough; ask for a hard copy if they want one.
Applicants to US medical programs send transcripts and diplomas through ECFMG, which asks for an English translation of every document that is not in English.
Three things that save a day of back and forth on a Korean college application.
01
Send the whole packet in one order
Transcripts, the diploma, recommendation letters and the grading scale travel together. One order keeps the names, dates and course titles consistent across every page.
02
Separate the records from your essays
Admissions offices want official records translated word for word. Essays and statements are usually written in English by the applicant, so upload only what the school will read as evidence.
03
Count on more than one page per sheet
A transcript or a course description holds a lot of text. The quote counts words, not sheets, so a dense sheet may price as two or three pages.
Details and pricing
What is included in a Korean college application translation
One price per page covers the translation and its certification. A page is up to 250 words, and the quote tells you the page count before you pay.
Everything on the college application is translated, including stamps, seals and handwritten notes. Tell us the English spelling you use for each name when you order.
Ask them. Some want the attendance and award pages only; others want the teacher comments because that is where the evaluation is. The record is issued through 정부24 or by the school with the 학교장 seal, and it prints in a fixed order, so we can translate the pages you choose and the certification states which pages were translated.
I have not graduated yet. What proves I am finishing high school?
A 졸업예정증명서, the certificate of expected graduation, issued by the school or through 정부24 in your final year. It names the school and the expected graduation date. US colleges take it for admission and then ask for the 졸업증명서 after February graduation, so you may need two one-page translations a few months apart.
I am applying from the US to a Korean university. Do you translate the other way?
Yes. Korean universities admitting foreign students through 외국인 특별전형 usually accept English transcripts and diplomas, but some ask for a Korean translation of a US high school transcript, a recommendation letter or a parent's financial affidavit. The apostille on the US original comes from the issuing state. Tell us the university and we translate into Korean and can notarize the translation.
How much does a certified translation cost?
Certified translation is $25 per page, with a page counted as up to 250 words. Notarization, a mailed physical copy and an apostille are optional and priced separately.
How long does a certified translation take?
Standard turnaround starts at 24 hours and depends on the length and language of your documents. If you have a deadline, include it in your quote request.
