Korean transcript translation of a 성적증명서 or a high school 학교생활기록부 for WES, ECE, a US university, a nursing board or an employer. Most Korean universities print an English 성적증명서 themselves, so the work usually falls on the Korean-only records: the 학생부, the 검정고시 certificate and the 수능 성적통지표.
A credential evaluator wants the grading scale, the credits and the rank, and each sits in a different Korean record.
University 성적증명서
A Korean university transcript lists each 학기 with the course name, 학점 (credits), 등급 (A+, A0, B+ and so on) and 평점. Most universities compute the 평점평균 on a 4.5 scale, a few on 4.3, and the translation states the scale so an evaluator does not read a 3.9 as a US 3.9. Courses are tagged 전공필수, 전공선택, 교양 or 일반선택, and we translate the tags since the evaluator uses them to find the major. A certificate printed from a university's web issuance system carries a 발급번호 and a verification address, which we keep.
High school 학교생활기록부
A Korean high school has no separate transcript. The grades sit in the 교과학습발달상황 section of the 학교생활기록부, pulled from NEIS in Korean only. For each subject and semester it gives the 단위수 (weekly units, the credit measure), 원점수, 과목평균, 표준편차, 성취도 and 석차등급, the rank band from 1 to 9, with the number of students taking the subject. We keep the columns in their printed order and translate the headings once, so an evaluator can read across a row.
검정고시 and 수능
A 검정고시 합격증명서 from a 교육청 proves a high school equivalency, and the matching 성적증명서 lists the subjects passed. The 수능 성적통지표 from the 한국교육과정평가원 gives 표준점수, 백분위 and 등급 per subject, three figures that are easy to confuse in English; we label them as standard score, percentile and grade. Each is a single page.
Who is asking for your Korean academic transcript translation?
The translation is the same. What changes is whether the recipient wants anything added to it.
Credential evaluators
WES, ECE and similar services ask for a word-for-word certified translation of each page, sent alongside the official transcript.
Admissions offices and school districts accept a certified translation they can read next to the original. A PDF is usually enough; ask for a hard copy if they want one.
Three things that save a day of back and forth on a Korean academic transcript.
01
Send the official copy
An evaluator wants the sealed transcript from the registrar, not a self-printed grade list. Order the translation from the same copy the school issues.
02
Include the grading legend
The scale, the pass mark and the credit system are usually printed at the foot or on the back. Send that part too so it is translated with the grades.
03
Expect more than one page per sheet
A transcript sheet holds far more than 250 words. The quote counts words, not sheets, so a two-sheet transcript may price as four or five pages.
Details and pricing
What is included in a Korean academic transcript translation
One price per page covers the translation and its certification. A page is up to 250 words, and the quote tells you the page count before you pay.
Everything on the academic transcript is translated, including stamps, seals and handwritten notes. Tell us the English spelling you use for each name when you order.
My university issues an English transcript. Do I still need a translation?
Usually not for the university transcript; send the English 성적증명서 in its sealed envelope as WES or the school asks. You need a translation when the only version is Korean, which is common for 전문대학, older graduates, 대학원 course lists and every high school record. If the English transcript leaves course titles in Korean, we translate those lines only.
What does 석차등급 mean on a Korean high school record?
It is the rank band for a subject: the top four percent of the cohort are 1등급, the next seven percent 2등급, down to 9등급. US colleges have no such band, so the translation keeps the number and adds a note explaining it. 원점수 is the raw score out of 100 and 성취도 is the letter from A to E.
Does a Korean university or the 병무청 need my US transcript in Korean?
Sometimes. Korean universities admitting through 재외국민 특별전형 or 외국인 특별전형, and the 병무청 when a man studying abroad applies for a 국외여행기간 연장, want Korean translations of US transcripts and enrollment letters. Many accept English, so ask the office first. We translate the transcript with the course names in Korean and the grades and credits as printed.
How much does a certified translation cost?
Certified translation is $25 per page, with a page counted as up to 250 words. Notarization, a mailed physical copy and an apostille are optional and priced separately.
How long does a certified translation take?
Standard turnaround starts at 24 hours and depends on the length and language of your documents. If you have a deadline, include it in your quote request.
