Punjabi id card translation into certified English for USCIS, an asylum case, a bank or an employer. We translate the Aadhaar card, the voter ID card and the Punjab ration card, which print names and addresses in Gurmukhi beside the English, and flag where the two sides disagree.
Identity cards from Indian Punjab are bilingual, and the Gurmukhi and English sides do not always say the same thing.
Aadhaar
UIDAI prints the name, gender, date of birth and address in Punjabi and English, with the 12-digit Aadhaar number. You may hold the original letter, a downloaded e-Aadhaar PDF or the plastic card. The Gurmukhi address usually carries the village, post office, tehsil and district in full where the English side abbreviates. Some cards give only a year of birth, and we translate exactly that.
Voter card
The Election Commission's photo identity card, the EPIC, names the holder and a father or husband, and older cards give an age as of a stated year instead of a birth date. The Gurmukhi spelling on a voter card was often typed by a different clerk than the English one, so Gurpreet on one side can be Gurprit on the other. The translation shows both.
Ration card
The Punjab ration card lists every member of the household with their relationship to the head of the family and their ages. It is rarely asked for as identity, but it is one of the few government papers that shows a whole family on one page, which makes it useful in an asylum file or where a relationship has to be shown. The entries are in Gurmukhi.
Who is asking for your Punjabi id card translation?
The translation is the same. What changes is whether the recipient wants anything added to it.
USCIS
USCIS asks for a complete English translation and a signed certification from the translator. No notarization is needed.
An ID card offered as proof of identity or date of birth is accepted with a certified translation. A few offices want it notarized as well, so check with your office before you order.
IRCC accepts a certified translation with the translator's affidavit. Order the certified translation and add notarization if your application guide asks for it.
Three things that save a day of back and forth on a Punjabi id card.
01
Scan both sides
The issuing office, the expiry date and the address are usually on the back. Upload the front and the back in one order so the translation covers the whole card.
02
Give us the spelling you use in English
The translation shows the name as the card prints it and notes the spelling on your passport or green card. Say which at checkout so the two documents match.
03
A phone photo works if every character is readable
Lay the card on a plain surface, avoid glare on the hologram and take one picture per side with the whole card in frame.
Details and pricing
What is included in a Punjabi id card translation
One price per page covers the translation and its certification. A page is up to 250 words, and the quote tells you the page count before you pay.
Everything on the id card is translated, including stamps, seals and handwritten notes. Tell us the English spelling you use for each name when you order.
Will USCIS accept an Aadhaar card as proof of identity?
Not in place of a passport or a birth certificate. An Aadhaar card turns up as supporting evidence: an address history, a date of birth where the birth was never registered, or a link between family members. Translate it when your attorney or the request for evidence asks for it.
My PAN card is in Hindi and English. Can you translate it?
Yes, though a PAN card from the Income Tax Department has no Punjabi on it. The English already covers every field, so it seldom needs translating. Upload it with your other cards and we tell you before you pay whether it needs any work.
Do you translate a Pakistani CNIC?
Yes. The NADRA computerized national identity card has Urdu and English, and the back, with the addresses, is often Urdu only. We translate the Urdu fields, keep the 13-digit number exactly as printed, and match the English spelling of your name to your passport.
How much does a certified translation cost?
Certified translation is $25 per page, with a page counted as up to 250 words. Notarization, a mailed physical copy and an apostille are optional and priced separately.
How long does a certified translation take?
Standard turnaround starts at 24 hours and depends on the length and language of your documents. If you have a deadline, include it in your quote request.
