Punjabi birth certificate translation to English for USCIS or IRCC, from the municipal and Registrar of Births and Deaths certificates issued across Indian Punjab, and from Shahmukhi records out of Pakistani Punjab.
Indian birth certificates come from the municipal corporation, the nagar panchayat or the district registrar, and no two offices print the form the same way.
Two dates, two numbers
The certificate gives a date of birth and a separate date of registration, plus a registration number and often the hospital or the village. A registration years after the birth is normal. We translate both dates as printed, keep the registration number exactly, and transliterate the village and tehsil names the way you spell them elsewhere.
Son of, daughter of
The child is identified through the father, as S/o or D/o, and the mother may appear by first name only. Where the form is bilingual we translate the Gurmukhi entries and carry over the English ones; where it is Gurmukhi throughout, every line is translated. A native translator reads the handwriting rather than guessing at it.
No certificate at all
Many people born in Punjab before the 1990s were never registered. The usual substitute is a non-availability certificate from the registrar with an affidavit on stamp paper from a parent or an elder, sometimes backed by a school leaving certificate for the date of birth. We translate the set together so the dates and names agree across all of it.
Who is asking for your Punjabi birth certificate translation?
The translation is the same. What changes is whether the recipient wants anything added to it.
USCIS
USCIS asks for a complete English translation and a signed certification from the translator. No notarization is needed.
Three things that save a day of back and forth on a Punjabi birth certificate.
01
Scan the whole page
Include the back, the margins and any marginal notes. A later correction or a recognition of paternity is often written in the margin, and the recipient needs to see it translated.
02
Give us the English spelling of each name
If your passport or green card spells a name without an accent, tell us at checkout. The translation keeps the names as the certificate writes them and notes the spelling you use.
03
Order the format the recipient asked for
If they want the long form, send the long form. We translate what you upload and cannot add parents' details that a short-form extract leaves out.
Details and pricing
What is included in a Punjabi birth certificate translation
One price per page covers the translation and its certification. A page is up to 250 words, and the quote tells you the page count before you pay.
Everything on the birth certificate is translated, including stamps, seals and handwritten notes. Tell us the English spelling you use for each name when you order.
My certificate is in Punjabi and English. Do I still need a translation?
Usually yes. The printed headings may be in both languages, but the entries, the registrar's signature and the seal are often Gurmukhi only, and a partly translated page is not a complete one. We translate the Punjabi, carry over the English and certify the whole page.
Will the translation match the spelling on my passport?
Yes. Gurmukhi has no single romanization, so Jaswinder and Jasvinder can be the same person. Tell us the spelling on your passport at checkout and we use it for every name, with the Gurmukhi original beside it the first time it appears.
Can you translate a Pakistani Punjabi birth certificate?
Yes. Pakistani birth records are mostly Urdu, with Shahmukhi Punjabi in older union council papers and in affidavits. A NADRA child registration certificate is already in English and may not need translating at all. Send what you have and we tell you which pages need work.
How much does a certified translation cost?
Certified translation is $25 per page, with a page counted as up to 250 words. Notarization, a mailed physical copy and an apostille are optional and priced separately.
How long does a certified translation take?
Standard turnaround starts at 24 hours and depends on the length and language of your documents. If you have a deadline, include it in your quote request.
