Punjabi marriage certificate translation into certified English for a USCIS spouse petition or an IRCC sponsorship. We translate the gurdwara certificate from the Anand Karaj, the registration certificate from the marriage registrar in Indian Punjab, and the Nikah Nama from Pakistani Punjab.
Most couples married in Punjab hold two papers: one from the gurdwara where the Anand Karaj took place, and one from the government office that registered the marriage. They prove different things, and a spouse petition usually needs both translated.
The gurdwara certificate
The gurdwara committee issues a Gurmukhi certificate naming the bride and groom, their fathers, their villages, the date of the ceremony and the granthi who performed it. Wedding photos are often pasted on with the gurdwara stamp across them. We translate the stamp, the signatures and every handwritten line, and describe the photos in brackets so the officer knows what is on the page.
The registrar's certificate and its Act
A registration certificate names the law it was issued under: the Hindu Marriage Act 1955, under which most Sikh couples were registered for decades, the Anand Marriage Act as amended in 2012, the Special Marriage Act for interfaith couples, or Punjab's 2012 compulsory registration law. The translation keeps the Act and section exactly as printed. Many of these certificates have English headings, and the Gurmukhi is in the filled-in entries, the registrar's stamp and the witness details.
Nikah Nama from Pakistani Punjab
A Muslim marriage in Pakistani Punjab is recorded on a Nikah Nama, an Urdu form with numbered columns for the mehr, the witnesses, the wakil and whether the husband delegated the right of divorce. The union council registers it, and NADRA issues a computerized marriage registration certificate in English. We translate every column of the Nikah Nama, including the blank ones, marked as blank.
Who is asking for your Punjabi marriage certificate translation?
The translation is the same. What changes is whether the recipient wants anything added to it.
USCIS
USCIS asks for a complete English translation and a signed certification from the translator. No notarization is needed.
IRCC accepts a certified translation with the translator's affidavit. Order the certified translation and add notarization if your application guide asks for it.
Three things that save a day of back and forth on a Punjabi marriage certificate.
01
Send every page, including the register entry
Many certificates are an extract of a register entry. If you have both the extract and the register page, upload both so the witnesses, the property regime and the marginal notes are translated too.
02
Spell both names the way the passports do
The translation keeps each name as the certificate writes it. Tell us the spelling each spouse uses in English so the recipient can match the two documents.
03
Check whether the recipient wants a recent copy
USCIS and many consulates ask for a certificate issued recently. Get the fresh copy first and then order its translation, so the issue dates match.
Details and pricing
What is included in a Punjabi marriage certificate translation
One price per page covers the translation and its certification. A page is up to 250 words, and the quote tells you the page count before you pay.
Everything on the marriage certificate is translated, including stamps, seals and handwritten notes. Tell us the English spelling you use for each name when you order.
Usually not on its own. USCIS looks for the civil registration where one exists, and for India that is the certificate from the marriage registrar. The gurdwara certificate and the wedding photos still help show the marriage is real. Send both and we translate them as one order, with the names spelled the same way on each.
We married years ago and only registered recently. Does that matter?
Late registration is common in Punjab, and the certificate shows the date of the marriage and the later date it was registered. We translate both dates as printed. If the registrar relied on affidavits or the gurdwara certificate to register it, translate those too so the officer sees where the date came from.
My wife is Kaur on one paper and uses my surname on another. Is that a problem?
No, but it should be explained rather than hidden. A gurdwara certificate often gives the bride as Kaur, daughter of her father, while a later passport carries the husband's family name. We translate each paper as it reads and use the spelling you give us at checkout for every name.
How much does a certified translation cost?
Certified translation is $25 per page, with a page counted as up to 250 words. Notarization, a mailed physical copy and an apostille are optional and priced separately.
How long does a certified translation take?
Standard turnaround starts at 24 hours and depends on the length and language of your documents. If you have a deadline, include it in your quote request.
