Ukrainian asylum documents translation for an I-589 filed by someone in the US on Uniting for Ukraine parole or TPS. The evidence is rarely one document. It is a draft notice from the ТЦК, a police extract from the ЄРДР, an IDP certificate, a hospital discharge, a damage report on a flat in Kharkiv, and papers issued in Russian by an occupation administration. We translate all of it into certified English.
An asylum officer reads the file for dates, places and who issued what, so each translation states the issuer and the language of its original.
Papers from occupied territory, in Russian
A person from Mariupol, Melitopol or Kherson often holds documents that Ukraine does not recognize: a Russian passport issued through passportization, a so-called ДНР or ЛНР identity card, a filtration certificate, a housing or employment paper stamped by an occupation administration. They are evidence of what happened to the person, so they are translated word for word, with the issuer named as printed and a translator's note that it is an occupation authority rather than a Ukrainian office. The translation states that the original is in Russian.
Certificates that date the harm
The довідка про взяття на облік внутрішньо переміщеної особи gives the date and the settlement a person fled, and since 2022 it is usually a Diia printout with a QR code. A damaged home produces an акт обстеження with the degree of damage and the єВідновлення application record. A hospital discharge summary gives the diagnosis and the dates of treatment, and the death certificate of a relative records the cause and the place. Every date is written out so it lines up with the timeline in the I-589.
Draft notices, military records and police extracts
A повістка from the ТЦК та СП, the office that replaced the військкомат, a військовий квиток, a Резерв+ screen or a decision on deferment are the usual service papers. A complaint to the police is proved by a витяг з ЄРДР, the extract from the register of pretrial investigations, which gives the proceeding number, the article of the Criminal Code and the date of registration, and that is often the only paper the police ever issued. Whether a draft notice helps a claim is a question for the attorney. Our job is the exact article cited and the date of appearance.
Who is asking for your Ukrainian asylum documents translation?
The translation is the same. What changes is whether the recipient wants anything added to it.
USCIS asylum offices
USCIS asks for a complete English translation of every foreign-language document and a signed certification from the translator. No notarization is needed.
An immigration judge expects each exhibit translated in full and certified, filed with the original. Courts refuse summaries, so every page you file is translated whole.
Refugee claims in Canada accept a certified translation with the translator's affidavit. Order the certified translation and add notarization if your application guide asks for it.
Three things that save a day of back and forth on a Ukrainian asylum documents.
01
Send every page, including the envelopes
Police reports, threat letters, medical reports and newspaper clippings each count. Postmarks and envelopes show when and where a letter was sent, so scan them too.
02
Keep handwritten pages readable
Letters and notes are often handwritten. Photograph each page flat in good light, and tell us any names or places that are hard to make out.
03
Give us the names as your application spells them
Your I-589 fixes the English spelling of your name and of each family member. Tell us that spelling so every document in the file matches.

I entered under Uniting for Ukraine. Do I need the same documents translated again for asylum?
Parole under Uniting for Ukraine and TPS were granted mostly on a Ukrainian passport and proof of residence, so most people have had little translated. An I-589 asks for evidence of the specific harm or threat, which is a different set of papers: certificates, medical records, police extracts, messages. We translate what your attorney selects, and a passport translation we made earlier can be reused as it is.
Can you translate a Ukrainian court ruling or a prosecutor's notice about my own case?
Yes. Claims built on prosecution rather than violence rest on an ухвала слідчого судді, a повідомлення про підозру naming the article charged, a постанова about opening or closing the proceeding, or a court judgment. These documents are long and formulaic, and the operative part sits near the end under the word УХВАЛИВ or ПОСТАНОВИВ. We translate the whole text, keep the case number and the article numbers, and do not summarize the reasoning.
I am in Canada under CUAET and claiming refugee protection. Does the same translation work?
Yes. The Immigration and Refugee Board reads documents in English or French, and anything in Ukrainian or Russian goes in with a translation and the translator's signed declaration, which our certification provides. The documents themselves are the same ones a US claim uses: IDP certificates, hospital discharges, police extracts, occupation papers. Tell us the claim is for the IRB and we address the certification to it.
How much does a certified translation cost?
Certified translation is $25 per page, with a page counted as up to 250 words. Notarization, a mailed physical copy and an apostille are optional and priced separately.
How long does a certified translation take?
Standard turnaround starts at 24 hours and depends on the length and language of your documents. If you have a deadline, include it in your quote request.
