Hindi apostille translation covers two things: the Hindi certificate, affidavit or deed underneath, and the chain of stamps that carried it to the Ministry of External Affairs, which is usually in Hindi too. We translate the document and every attestation on it into certified English, and we translate US documents the other way so a sub-registrar or a district office in India can read what the Secretary of State apostilled.
India has issued apostilles since 2005, and the MEA sticker is in English. What sits under it is often not.
The attestation chain before the MEA
A birth certificate from Lucknow or a marriage affidavit from Jaipur does not go straight to Delhi. The state Home Department or General Administration Department attests it first, and in many files a notary and a Sub-Divisional Magistrate have stamped it before that. Those stamps are in Hindi: गृह विभाग, उप जिलाधिकारी, नोटरी पब्लिक, with a register number and a date in Devanagari numerals. A reader abroad cannot tell from the sticker what the three Hindi stamps under it say or in what order they were applied. We translate every stamp, signature line and register number in sequence, so the chain reads as a chain.
The sticker, its number and its French heading
The apostille gives the signer's name and capacity, the seal, the place, the date and a number. We copy the number exactly, because the receiving office may check it against the MEA record, and we translate the Hindi title of the official whose signature the apostille certifies when the attestation below names it in Hindi. The heading Apostille (Convention de La Haye du 5 octobre 1961) is French by treaty and stays in French in the translation with the English beside it, since a translation that drops it no longer matches the sticker.
Where the apostilled document is going
USCIS does not ask for an apostille on an Indian civil document; it asks for a certified translation. The apostille matters when the Hindi document goes to a state court, a county clerk, a university registrar or a foreign consulate in the US that follows its own country's rule. In the other direction, a US power of attorney or divorce decree apostilled by a Secretary of State and headed for a sub-registrar in Uttar Pradesh or Rajasthan meets Section 19 of the Registration Act, which allows an office to refuse a document in a language not commonly used in the district unless a true translation comes with it. We translate the document, the notary's acknowledgment and the apostille into Hindi for that.
Who is asking for your Hindi apostille translation?
The translation is the same. What changes is whether the recipient wants anything added to it.
Registries and courts abroad
A civil registry, a court or a notary in another country reads the apostille as proof the US document is genuine, and wants the whole set translated into its language. Tell us the country in the order notes.
Consulates processing a citizenship, marriage or residency application accept a certified translation of the apostilled document. Add notarization at checkout if the checklist asks for it.
Three things that save a day of back and forth on a Hindi apostille.
01
Send the apostille with the document it certifies
An apostille is a page stapled or glued to another document. Upload both, since the recipient reads the apostille only as proof that the document under it is genuine.
02
Scan the apostille whole, including the seal
The ten numbered fields, the seal and the signature of the issuing officer are what a foreign registry checks. Keep the full page in frame, including any ribbon or embossed stamp.
03
Get the apostille before you order
The translation has to cover the apostille page too. Have it issued first and then upload the complete set, so nothing is missing from the translation.
Details and pricing
What is included in a Hindi apostille translation
One price per page covers the translation and its certification. A page is up to 250 words, and the quote tells you the page count before you pay.
Everything on the apostille is translated, including stamps, seals and handwritten notes. Tell us the English spelling you use for each name when you order.
Do I need an apostille to send my Hindi birth certificate to USCIS?
No. USCIS wants a complete certified English translation of the certificate and does not require an apostille or any MEA attestation. If you already had the certificate apostilled for another purpose, send it with the sticker and the stamps and we translate all of it, which does no harm. If a US state agency, a court or a foreign consulate asked for an apostille, that request is theirs, and the apostille has to be obtained in India on the original.
Can you apostille the translation itself?
We can certify and notarize the translation. A US apostille from the Secretary of State of the notary's state can then be placed on the notarized translation, which is what a foreign office that wants an apostilled translation usually means. An Indian apostille can only be issued in India on an Indian document; we are not part of the MEA chain and cannot obtain one. Tell us which country the file is going to and we tell you which of the two applies.
My power of attorney was apostilled in the US and the sub-registrar wants Hindi. What do you translate?
The power of attorney, the notary's acknowledgment and the apostille certificate, as one Hindi document with the English layout kept so the officer can match it page for page. Stamp duty and adjudication on the power of attorney are paid in India after it arrives, by you or your attorney-holder, not by us. If you instead sign the document before an Indian consulate in the US, the consulate's attestation replaces the apostille, and we translate that attestation the same way.
How much does a certified translation cost?
Certified translation is $25 per page, with a page counted as up to 250 words. Notarization, a mailed physical copy and an apostille are optional and priced separately.
How long does a certified translation take?
Standard turnaround starts at 24 hours and depends on the length and language of your documents. If you have a deadline, include it in your quote request.
