Hindi birth certificate translation to English for USCIS, IRCC, a US passport or a school, from the जन्म प्रमाण पत्र issued by a municipal corporation, a nagar palika, a gram panchayat or a district registrar in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana and the other Hindi-speaking states.
Indian certificates are issued under one central law, but every registrar prints its own form, and the Hindi ones hold details an English-only reader would miss.
Who issued it and when
The certificate is issued by the Registrar of Births and Deaths under the 1969 Act, which in practice is the nagar nigam, nagar palika or gram panchayat for the place of birth. It gives the registration number and date of registration separately from the date of birth, and a birth registered more than a year late carries the order of a magistrate behind it. Newer certificates from the Civil Registration System portal add a QR code. We translate the office name, both dates and the order if you send it.
Name not entered
Many Indian children are registered before they are named, and the certificate reads नाम दर्ज नहीं or Name not entered in the name field. The name can be added later under the same registration, usually within fifteen years, and the corrected certificate shows it. The translation shows the field as the certificate does, blank or Name not entered, and does not fill it in. If you have the later certificate with the name, send that one.
Honorifics, numerals and places
Parents are written as श्री and श्रीमती, Shri and Smt, which are honorifics, not names, and the translation marks them as such rather than adding them to the name. Dates and numbers are sometimes in Devanagari numerals, १२/०३/१९८५, and are given in Western digits with the month in words. The village, tehsil and district are spelled the way your passport or Aadhaar spells them.
Who is asking for your Hindi birth certificate translation?
The translation is the same. What changes is whether the recipient wants anything added to it.
USCIS
USCIS asks for a complete English translation and a signed certification from the translator. No notarization is needed.
Three things that save a day of back and forth on a Hindi birth certificate.
01
Scan the whole page
Include the back, the margins and any marginal notes. A later correction or a recognition of paternity is often written in the margin, and the recipient needs to see it translated.
02
Give us the English spelling of each name
If your passport or green card spells a name without an accent, tell us at checkout. The translation keeps the names as the certificate writes them and notes the spelling you use.
03
Order the format the recipient asked for
If they want the long form, send the long form. We translate what you upload and cannot add parents' details that a short-form extract leaves out.
Details and pricing
What is included in a Hindi birth certificate translation
One price per page covers the translation and its certification. A page is up to 250 words, and the quote tells you the page count before you pay.
Everything on the birth certificate is translated, including stamps, seals and handwritten notes. Tell us the English spelling you use for each name when you order.
My certificate is printed in Hindi and English. Do I need a translation?
It depends on the entries. If every field, the registrar's signature and the seal are in English, the certificate can usually go in as it is. If the headings are bilingual but the entries, the stamp or the registrar's signature are in Hindi, the page is only partly readable and USCIS wants a full translation. Send a photo and we tell you whether it needs one.
The certificate was issued recently for a birth decades ago. Is that a problem?
No. Indian registrars print a fresh certificate from the register on request, dated the day it was issued, and the date of registration tells the reader when the entry was made. The translation keeps the three dates apart, birth, registration and issue, so an officer can see that an old birth was registered at the time and only the paper is new.
Can you translate the magistrate's order or the hospital record with it?
Yes. A delayed registration comes with an order from the magistrate on stamp paper, and some applicants also hold the hospital's discharge slip or a Form 1 birth report that names the child's parents. Each is translated as its own document in the same order so the names, dates and registration numbers can be checked against each other.
How much does a certified translation cost?
Certified translation is $25 per page, with a page counted as up to 250 words. Notarization, a mailed physical copy and an apostille are optional and priced separately.
How long does a certified translation take?
Standard turnaround starts at 24 hours and depends on the length and language of your documents. If you have a deadline, include it in your quote request.
