Hindi diploma translation to English for a credential evaluator, a graduate school, a licensing board or an employer. We translate the bilingual degree certificate, उपाधि प्रमाण पत्र, from state universities in Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Bihar, the polytechnic diploma from a state board of technical education, and the ITI trade certificate.
Degree, diploma and certificate mean different things in India
In India a diploma is a qualification below a degree, so the paper you call a diploma may be one of three documents, and an evaluator treats each differently.
The university degree certificate
State universities such as Lucknow, Allahabad, Rajasthan, Jiwaji or Patna confer the degree at a convocation, दीक्षांत समारोह, and the certificate gives the convocation date and the year of passing separately. Many are bilingual, with the Hindi text first, यह प्रमाणित किया जाता है कि, and the English below; some older Sanskrit and Hindi-medium degrees are in Hindi only. One certification covers both halves, with the English kept as printed.
Degree names in Hindi
The Hindi name of a degree does not map to its English abbreviation on sight: कला स्नातक is Bachelor of Arts, विज्ञान स्नातक Bachelor of Science, वाणिज्य स्नातक Bachelor of Commerce, स्नातकोत्तर a master's, and the Sanskrit universities confer शास्त्री and आचार्य, a bachelor's and a master's in Sanskrit studies. An Ayurvedic doctor holds आयुर्वेदाचार्य, the BAMS. We give the literal English name with the Hindi beside it and leave the US equivalence to the evaluator, since what a three-year Indian BA equals is their question, not the translator's.
Polytechnic diploma and ITI certificate
A three-year diploma in engineering comes from the state board, the प्राविधिक शिक्षा परिषद in Uttar Pradesh or the Board of Technical Education in Rajasthan, after Class 10, and an ITI trade certificate from the NCVT or the state council certifies a one- or two-year trade such as electrician or fitter. Both are often printed in Hindi with the branch or trade named in Hindi, and employers and evaluators read them as vocational qualifications. The translation names the awarding board and the branch exactly so neither is mistaken for a degree.
Who is asking for your Hindi diploma translation?
The translation is the same. What changes is whether the recipient wants anything added to it.
Credential evaluators
WES, ECE and similar services ask for a word-for-word certified translation sent with the original. The degree name stays in the original language beside the English.
Physicians trained abroad send their diploma and transcript through ECFMG, which asks for an English translation of every document that is not in English.
Three things that save a day of back and forth on a Hindi diploma.
01
Scan the back of the diploma
Registration numbers, the ministry stamp and the book and folio entries are often printed on the reverse. Send both sides.
02
Send the companion document
A professional license, a graduation act or a transcript often goes with the diploma. Upload the set so the numbers and dates are translated consistently.
03
Tell us who the translation is for
An evaluator, a licensing board and a university each read the degree name differently. Say in the order notes where it is going.
Details and pricing
What is included in a Hindi diploma translation
One price per page covers the translation and its certification. A page is up to 250 words, and the quote tells you the page count before you pay.
Everything on the diploma is translated, including stamps, seals and handwritten notes. Tell us the English spelling you use for each name when you order.
I only have the provisional certificate. Is that enough?
Often yes for an admission, and sometimes not for an evaluator. Universities issue an अनंतिम प्रमाण पत्र, the provisional certificate, soon after the results and the degree months or years later at convocation. The provisional names the degree, the year and the division on one page. Send what you have; if the final degree arrives later, we translate it as a separate order and the two will match.
Does WES or ECE accept your translation of an Indian degree?
Evaluators ask for a certified word-for-word English translation of any document that is not fully in English, and that is what we provide. On a bilingual degree certificate the work is the Hindi half. Check the evaluator's India checklist for which documents must come from the university directly, and order the translation from the same copies.
My degree certificate shows a division but no marks. Is that enough for an evaluator?
Rarely. The degree certificate names the degree, the year and the division, प्रथम श्रेणी or द्वितीय श्रेणी, and evaluators also want the marksheet for every year or semester to work out a grade average. Order the degree and the marksheets together so the roll number and the name match across the set.
How much does a certified translation cost?
Certified translation is $25 per page, with a page counted as up to 250 words. Notarization, a mailed physical copy and an apostille are optional and priced separately.
How long does a certified translation take?
Standard turnaround starts at 24 hours and depends on the length and language of your documents. If you have a deadline, include it in your quote request.
