Ukrainian text message translation for an I-130 relationship file, a K-1 petition, a custody or protective order hearing, or an asylum claim built on threats received by phone. Ukrainians text on Telegram and Viber more than by SMS, they switch between Ukrainian, Russian and surzhyk inside one thread, and they type Ukrainian in Latin letters when the keyboard is wrong. We translate the thread as it was written.
Written for Ukrainian text messages for court records
Reading a Ukrainian chat the way an officer will
A chat is evidence of who said what and when, so the translation keeps the sender, the timestamp and the register of each message, slang and all.
Telegram and Viber exports, not only screenshots
Telegram Desktop exports a chat as HTML or JSON with every message dated, and Viber can send a chat history by email; either beats a hundred screenshots, because the export carries the dates an officer wants and nothing is cropped. Sender names appear as saved in the phone, so Мама, Котик or Сашко ТЦК is translated with a note on who that is. Dates print in the device language and time zone, and the translation says which, because a message stamped 23:40 in Kyiv and 16:40 in New York is one message.
Russian, Ukrainian, surzhyk and translit in one thread
A couple from Kharkiv may text in Russian, switch to Ukrainian after 2022 and mix the two in surzhyk; a thread with a parent in a village is often surzhyk throughout. Each message is translated from whatever it is in, and the language is marked only where it matters, such as a Russian-language threat sent from an occupied town. Translit, Ukrainian typed as pryvit, yak ty, is read back into Ukrainian first. Shorthand like дяк, спс, нз, мб and норм, and abbreviations like ЗСУ, ТЦК and ВПО, are written out, and a sticker or an обійми is described rather than dropped.
What the thread is there to prove
For a bona fide marriage petition the officer looks for ordinary life over time, so we translate the dull messages about groceries, rent and the school run along with the loving ones, and сонечко or зайчик is translated as the pet name it is, with the literal meaning in brackets once. For an asylum or protective order case the exact wording of a threat matters, and obscenities are translated as obscenities, not softened. A voice note is audio, so we work from a written Ukrainian transcript of it.
Who is asking for your Ukrainian text messages for court translation?
The translation is the same. What changes is whether the recipient wants anything added to it.
USCIS
Messages filed as proof of a relationship or of a threat need a complete English translation and a signed certification from the translator. No notarization is needed.
Family, criminal and civil courts admit translated messages with a signed certification, and some judges want it notarized. Each message is translated in full with its date and sender.
An insurer handling a claim may ask for messages that show when an accident was reported or what was agreed. A certified translation they can read next to the screenshots is enough.
Three things that save a day of back and forth on a Ukrainian text messages for court.
01
Export the thread, do not retype it
Screenshots or a phone export keep the sender, the date and the time on each message. Those details are what a court or USCIS checks, so keep them in the file.
02
Keep the conversation complete and in order
Send the whole thread from the first message to the last, including the ones that do not help your case. A thread with gaps is easier to challenge.
03
Tell us who each contact is
Phone screens show nicknames and numbers. Give us the full name behind each contact so the translation can identify the speakers.
Details and pricing
What is included in a Ukrainian text messages for court translation
One price per page covers the translation and its certification. A page is up to 250 words, and the quote tells you the page count before you pay.
Everything on the text messages for court is translated, including stamps, seals and handwritten notes. Tell us the English spelling you use for each name when you order.
By the words in them. A page is up to 250 words at $25, so twenty screenshots of two-line messages may come to one or two pages, while a full Telegram export of a two-year relationship can run long. Send everything you want translated and the word count sets the price before you order. Timestamps and sender names are translated but are a small part of the count.
Should I translate the whole chat or only the messages my lawyer picked?
A selection is normal, and the translation lists each message it covers by date and sender. Include a few messages before and after each one that matters, since an officer or a judge reads a threat or a promise in context and may ask for the surrounding exchange. For a relationship file, a spread of dates across the whole relationship works better than one intense week.
Do you translate an English chat into Ukrainian for a court in Ukraine?
Yes. Ukrainian courts have admitted electronic evidence, screenshots and exports included, since the 2017 procedure codes, and a custody or divorce case in Ukraine may turn on messages written in English. We translate them into Ukrainian with our signed certification. Your Ukrainian lawyer may also ask a notary there to record an inspection of the phone screen, which is arranged in Ukraine, not by us.
How much does a certified translation cost?
Certified translation is $25 per page, with a page counted as up to 250 words. Notarization, a mailed physical copy and an apostille are optional and priced separately.
How long does a certified translation take?
Standard turnaround starts at 24 hours and depends on the length and language of your documents. If you have a deadline, include it in your quote request.
