Arabic Affidavit Translation

Arabic affidavit translation to English for USCIS, a US court or an insurer, and into Arabic for a notary, court or marriage office abroad. The Arabic documents that do the job of an affidavit are the إقرار, the إقرار مشفوع باليمين, the تعهد and the witness statement taken at a court or notary, and we translate each as what it is.

Written for Arabic affidavit records

Which Arabic paper is the affidavit, and who took it

Arab countries do not have the US affidavit sworn before any notary. A written statement gets its weight from the office that recorded it, and the translation has to show that office and its words.

Egypt: the إقرار at the الشهر العقاري

An Egyptian who needs a sworn statement goes to the الشهر العقاري والتوثيق office, where the إقرار or تعهد is signed before the clerk, who certifies the signature with a serial number, the date and fee stamps. The office does not swear the person in or vouch for the facts, and the translation keeps that limit visible: the certification covers the signature, not the content. Common ones are the إقرار إعالة, a declaration of support for a dependent, and the إقرار بعدم الزواج, the single-status declaration used before a marriage.

Levant, Iraq and the Gulf: the كاتب العدل

In Jordan, Syria, Iraq, Lebanon and the Gulf the statement is taken by the كاتب العدل, the notary attached to the court, and the paper is headed with the court's name and the notary's register number. Saudi Arabia runs this through the Ministry of Justice's Najiz service and licensed موثق offices, and the Emirati notary prints the deed in Arabic and English side by side, so only the Arabic-only stamps need translation. The register number and the court name are what a US reader uses to check the document, so they are carried over exactly.

Witness statements where the record is missing

Applicants from Yemen, Sudan, Iraq and rural Syria often have no birth record from the year of birth, and USCIS then asks for statements from two people who knew the family at the time. The Arabic version is a شهادة شهود or إفادة taken before a sharia court or a civil registrar, naming the witnesses, their ID numbers and the facts sworn to, and in Yemen it is often a حجة issued by the court. We translate the witnesses' names as their own IDs spell them, the court's heading and the judge's or clerk's seal, so the statement reads as the court record it is.

Who is asking for your Arabic affidavit translation?

The translation is the same. What changes is whether the recipient wants anything added to it.

USCIS

Affidavits standing in for a missing birth or marriage record are accepted with a complete English translation and a signed certification from the translator. No notarization is needed.

Courts

A court admits a translated affidavit with the translator's signed certification, and many ask for it notarized. Add notarization at checkout if the clerk asks for it.

Before you upload

Three things that save a day of back and forth on a Arabic affidavit.

01

Send the signed and notarized version

An affidavit is the sworn statement plus the notary block, stamp and seal. Upload the executed copy, with every exhibit it refers to, not the draft.

02

Give us the names as the passport spells them

The affiant, the notary and anyone named in the statement keep their names as written, with your English spelling noted, so the recipient can match the affidavit to the rest of the file.

03

Tell us where it is going

A court, USCIS and a foreign registry each want the certification handled differently. Say which in the order notes and we match the format.

I am marrying in Egypt or Jordan and need an affidavit of eligibility to marry. Which direction is the translation?
Into Arabic. You swear the affidavit at the US embassy, and the Egyptian Ministry of Justice marriage office for foreigners, or the Jordanian sharia court, wants it in Arabic with the embassy's stamp translated too. We translate it and can notarize the translation. Afterwards the Arabic marriage contract comes back to us for translation into English, under a separate order, for your US records or a spouse petition.
A relative in Iraq wrote a statement for my USCIS case but it was never notarized. Can you still translate it?
Yes. USCIS takes a signed statement from a third party as evidence and decides what weight to give it; a notary's stamp helps but is not required. We translate the statement, the signature line and any attached ID copy, and title it as a statement rather than an affidavit, since calling an unsworn paper an affidavit is the kind of mismatch an officer notices.
My relative signed the statement with a thumbprint. Is that a problem for the translation?
Not for the translation. We translate the handwriting, mark the thumbprint where it sits on the page and transcribe the ID number beside it. How much weight USCIS gives the statement is its decision, and it helps when the statement says how the witness knows the facts and gives a phone number or address where they can be reached.
How much does a certified translation cost?
Certified translation is $25 per page, with a page counted as up to 250 words. Notarization, a mailed physical copy and an apostille are optional and priced separately.
How long does a certified translation take?
Standard turnaround starts at 24 hours and depends on the length and language of your documents. If you have a deadline, include it in your quote request.
