Vietnamese affidavit translation for USCIS, a US court, a probate case or an office in Vietnam. Vietnamese law has no sworn affidavit; what arrives is a giấy cam đoan or bản tường trình with the signature certified by a UBND phường, a giấy xác nhận issued by the ward itself, or a hợp đồng ủy quyền from a notary. We translate each into certified English, and US affidavits into Vietnamese.
Công chứng, chứng thực and what each one vouches for
A Vietnamese document gets its weight from which office stamped it and what that office certified. A US judge needs to know whether anyone checked the facts.
Chứng thực chữ ký: the ward certifies a signature
A giấy cam đoan, bản cam kết or bản tường trình is written by the person, then signed at the UBND phường or xã under Decree 23, where the official adds a block reading that the person signed in their presence, with a số chứng thực and the red seal. The ward does not verify a word of the content. That is close to a US affidavit without an oath, and we translate the body, the certification block and the seal, keeping the block's wording so the reader sees exactly what was and was not checked.
Giấy xác nhận: the ward states a fact
When the ward itself issues a giấy xác nhận, it is vouching for the fact: that two names on different papers are the same person, that a family lived at an address, that a birth was never registered or the sổ hộ tịch was lost. The giấy xác nhận là một người and the xác nhận quan hệ nhân thân turn up constantly in I-130 files where the giấy khai sinh, the CCCD and the passport disagree. The English title we give keeps the ward as the author, because it carries more weight than a relative's statement.
Hợp đồng ủy quyền: the power of attorney sent to Vietnam
The paper most often sent the other way is a hợp đồng ủy quyền or giấy ủy quyền letting a relative sell land, collect an inheritance or appear in a lawsuit. A Vietnamese citizen in the US can sign it at a Vietnamese consulate, which notarizes it directly. Anyone else signs before a US notary and gets a state apostille before a Vietnamese office will act on it. Notaries in Vietnam read the phạm vi ủy quyền literally, so a power to bán does not cover cho thuê or thế chấp. We translate a Vietnamese one for a US bank or court and check the English draft of one written here.
Who is asking for your Vietnamese affidavit translation?
The translation is the same. What changes is whether the recipient wants anything added to it.
USCIS
Affidavits standing in for a missing birth or marriage record are accepted with a complete English translation and a signed certification from the translator. No notarization is needed.
A court admits a translated affidavit with the translator's signed certification, and many ask for it notarized. Add notarization at checkout if the clerk asks for it.
Three things that save a day of back and forth on a Vietnamese affidavit.
01
Send the signed and notarized version
An affidavit is the sworn statement plus the notary block, stamp and seal. Upload the executed copy, with every exhibit it refers to, not the draft.
02
Give us the names as the passport spells them
The affiant, the notary and anyone named in the statement keep their names as written, with your English spelling noted, so the recipient can match the affidavit to the rest of the file.
03
Tell us where it is going
A court, USCIS and a foreign registry each want the certification handled differently. Say which in the order notes and we match the format.
Details and pricing
What is included in a Vietnamese affidavit translation
One price per page covers the translation and its certification. A page is up to 250 words, and the quote tells you the page count before you pay.
Everything on the affidavit is translated, including stamps, seals and handwritten notes. Tell us the English spelling you use for each name when you order.
USCIS wants two affidavits because my giấy khai sinh was registered late. What do relatives in Vietnam send?
Each relative writes a giấy cam đoan stating their name, date of birth, address and how they know your birth date and parents, and signs it at the UBND phường with chứng thực chữ ký. Ask the ward for a giấy xác nhận that the birth was registered late or that the registers were lost, which is common for the war years. We translate the statements, the certification blocks and the ward letter as one set.
Do you translate a văn bản khai nhận di sản or a từ chối nhận di sản for an inheritance?
Yes. The văn bản khai nhận di sản thừa kế lists the deceased, the heirs and the property and is notarized at a văn phòng công chứng after a public notice period; a văn bản từ chối nhận di sản gives up a share. A US probate court or a bank holding the heir's account reads our English. An heir living in the US who has to give up or claim a share signs the matching paper at a Vietnamese consulate.
Can you translate my US affidavit into Vietnamese for a court or ward office?
Yes. A Vietnamese court will accept a bản tự khai or a đơn xin xét xử vắng mặt from a party abroad, and a UBND or notary takes a sworn statement about marital status, identity or consent, as long as it carries an apostille and arrives with a Vietnamese translation. We translate into Vietnamese, notarized if you want it. Some courts order their own translation as well, which the lawyer handling the case can tell you.
How much does a certified translation cost?
Certified translation is $25 per page, with a page counted as up to 250 words. Notarization, a mailed physical copy and an apostille are optional and priced separately.
How long does a certified translation take?
Standard turnaround starts at 24 hours and depends on the length and language of your documents. If you have a deadline, include it in your quote request.
