Arabic death certificate translation to English for a widow or widower's petition, a parent's estate, a life insurance claim or Social Security survivor benefits. We translate certificates from Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Syria, Jordan, Lebanon, Yemen, Sudan and the Maghreb, including the court heirship papers that usually travel with them.
Where an Arabic death certificate comes from, and what comes with it
Across the Arab world the hospital reports the death and the civil registry records it, so the certificate the family holds is a registry document, and an inheritance usually needs a second paper from a court.
Egypt: the شهادة وفاة and the إعلام وراثة
The Egyptian certificate is printed by مصلحة الأحوال المدنية from the notification the health office received, and gives the deceased's national ID number, the date, place and cause of death and the name of the person who reported it. To settle property or a bank account the heirs then obtain an إعلام وراثة from the family court, which lists every heir and their share. US probate courts and banks commonly ask for both, and we spell the heirs' names to match their passports.
Saudi Arabia and the Gulf
A Saudi شهادة وفاة is issued through the Ministry of Health and recorded by الأحوال المدنية, and the dates are Hijri. The translation gives the Hijri date as written and the Gregorian equivalent beside it, because a US insurer or the Social Security Administration will compare the date against its own records. For a foreign worker who died in the Gulf, the family often holds a hospital report and a police letter in addition to the certificate, and each one goes into the order as its own page.
Syria, Iraq, Jordan and Lebanon
Syrians usually send an إخراج قيد وفاة or بيان وفاة printed from the civil register rather than the original certificate, and Iraqis a certificate from the health directorate alongside the civil status record. Jordan's certificate comes from the Civil Status and Passports Department. Where a death happened during the war and was registered years later, the register entry shows the registration date separately from the date of death, and the translation keeps both, labelled, so the gap is explained rather than hidden.
Who is asking for your Arabic death certificate translation?
The translation is the same. What changes is whether the recipient wants anything added to it.
USCIS
USCIS asks for a complete English translation and a signed certification from the translator. No notarization is needed.
Three things that save a day of back and forth on a Arabic death certificate.
01
Send the civil record, not only the medical form
The registry act is the document recipients ask for. Add the doctor's certificate as a second file if an insurer or a court wants the cause of death.
02
Include the reverse and the stamps
Issue stamps, the registrar's signature and folio numbers often sit on the back or at the edge. Photograph both sides flat with the whole page in frame.
03
Give us the names as they appear elsewhere
Tell us the English spelling of the deceased and of the spouse or parents named on the record, so the translation matches the petition, policy or probate file it joins.
Details and pricing
What is included in a Arabic death certificate translation
One price per page covers the translation and its certification. A page is up to 250 words, and the quote tells you the page count before you pay.
Everything on the death certificate is translated, including stamps, seals and handwritten notes. Tell us the English spelling you use for each name when you order.
USCIS wants proof that my previous marriage ended. Is the Arabic death certificate enough?
A certified translation of the spouse's death certificate is what USCIS asks for when a prior marriage ended by death, and it goes in with the I-130 or I-485 alongside the current marriage record. The translation names the deceased exactly as the marriage certificate does, with the same spelling of the father's and grandfather's names, so the officer can see the two documents describe the same person. If the certificate is a recent register extract rather than the original, send that.
The certificate gives no cause of death. Will a US insurer accept it?
Many Arabic certificates do not state a cause; Jordanian and Syrian registry extracts record the fact and date of death only. A life insurer or a pension fund that needs the cause will usually accept the hospital's medical report or the burial permit (تصريح دفن) alongside the certificate, and we translate those as separate pages. We never add a cause to the certificate translation that the original does not carry.
My father died in the US and left a flat in Egypt. Do the heirs need his death certificate in Arabic?
Yes. The court that issues the heirship ruling, and later the bank or the land registry, reads Arabic. The US certificate is legalized first and translated after, so the stamps go into the Arabic too. Some Egyptian and Gulf courts take only a translation stamped by a local office, so ask the lawyer handling the estate which version the court wants. We can notarize ours.
How much does a certified translation cost?
Certified translation is $25 per page, with a page counted as up to 250 words. Notarization, a mailed physical copy and an apostille are optional and priced separately.
How long does a certified translation take?
Standard turnaround starts at 24 hours and depends on the length and language of your documents. If you have a deadline, include it in your quote request.
