Spanish transcript translation to English for a credential evaluation, a college application, a school district enrollment or a licensing board. We translate the Mexican certificado de estudios, the Spanish certificación académica personal, the Colombian certificado de notas and the Argentine certificado analítico.
What changes and what stays on a translated transcript
A transcript is a table of course names, grades and credits, and each country has its own scale. The translation moves the words and leaves the numbers alone.
Grade scales are kept, not converted
Mexico grades from 0 to 10 with 6 as the pass mark; Colombia from 0 to 5 with 3.0; Spain from 0 to 10 with the words Aprobado, Notable, Sobresaliente and Matrícula de Honor beside the number; Chile from 1 to 7; Peru from 0 to 20. The translation shows each grade as printed and, where the document states its scale, translates that legend. Turning it into a GPA is the evaluator's work, not the translator's.
Course titles, hours and credits
A certificado de estudios lists materias by semester or cuatrimestre with horas or créditos and often a clave. We translate each course title literally, keep the code, and do not rename Cálculo Diferencial to the US course it resembles. Periods such as ciclo escolar 2019-2020 keep their dates, so an evaluator can line the record up with the diploma and the acta.
Official copies and the kardex
Mexican universities give students a kardex or historial académico they can print themselves, and a sealed certificado de estudios total that the control escolar office signs. Evaluators and most universities want the sealed one; a school district enrolling a child usually accepts a boleta de calificaciones. Whichever you send, every seal and signature block is translated, and a transcript sheet runs well past 250 words, so one sheet often prices as two or three pages.
Who is asking for your Spanish academic transcript translation?
The translation is the same. What changes is whether the recipient wants anything added to it.
Credential evaluators
WES, ECE and similar services ask for a word-for-word certified translation of each page, sent alongside the official transcript.
Admissions offices and school districts accept a certified translation they can read next to the original. A PDF is usually enough; ask for a hard copy if they want one.
Three things that save a day of back and forth on a Spanish academic transcript.
01
Send the official copy
An evaluator wants the sealed transcript from the registrar, not a self-printed grade list. Order the translation from the same copy the school issues.
02
Include the grading legend
The scale, the pass mark and the credit system are usually printed at the foot or on the back. Send that part too so it is translated with the grades.
03
Expect more than one page per sheet
A transcript sheet holds far more than 250 words. The quote counts words, not sheets, so a two-sheet transcript may price as four or five pages.
Details and pricing
What is included in a Spanish academic transcript translation
One price per page covers the translation and its certification. A page is up to 250 words, and the quote tells you the page count before you pay.
Everything on the academic transcript is translated, including stamps, seals and handwritten notes. Tell us the English spelling you use for each name when you order.
Does WES accept your translation of a Spanish transcript?
Evaluators ask for a word-for-word certified translation of every document that is not in English, which is what we deliver. Check whether the evaluator also wants the school to send the transcript directly in a sealed envelope; if so, order the translation from the same copy, so the two match page for page.
How is a transcript priced?
By length. A page is up to 250 words, and a transcript sheet with forty courses, grades, credits and a legend often holds 500 to 750 words, so it prices as two or three pages. Upload the file and you see the page count before you pay.
Can you translate a boleta or a school transcript to enroll my child in a US school?
Yes. A boleta de calificaciones from a primaria or secundaria, or a Spanish boletín de notas, is usually one or two pages, and school districts accept a certified translation. Send the latest year and any constancia de estudios that shows the grade the child completed, so the school can place them.
How much does a certified translation cost?
Certified translation is $25 per page, with a page counted as up to 250 words. Notarization, a mailed physical copy and an apostille are optional and priced separately.
How long does a certified translation take?
Standard turnaround starts at 24 hours and depends on the length and language of your documents. If you have a deadline, include it in your quote request.
