Vietnamese transcript translation to English for a credential evaluator, a US university, a licensing board or an employer. We translate the bảng điểm from a university's Phòng Đào tạo, the học bạ booklet from a trường trung học phổ thông and the giấy chứng nhận kết quả thi from the national exam, keeping the 10-point marks exactly as the school printed them.
Written for Vietnamese academic transcript records
Ten-point marks, four-point GPAs and the word Giỏi
A Vietnamese transcript carries two grading systems at once, and the words used for the ranking are the lines an evaluator asks about most.
Thang điểm 10 and thang điểm 4 side by side
A university on the credit system prints each course with its tín chỉ, its mark out of 10, a letter and a 4-point value. Under the ministry's rules 8.5 to 10 is an A worth 4.0, 7.0 to 8.4 a B, 5.5 to 6.9 a C, 4.0 to 5.4 a D, and below 4.0 an F, with many schools adding B+, C+ and D+ bands. The cumulative average is the điểm trung bình chung tích lũy. We do not convert anything. Both columns and the legend at the foot are translated as printed, so WES or ECE applies its own conversion to the same numbers.
Xếp loại: Xuất sắc, Giỏi, Khá, Trung bình
The ranking line reads Xuất sắc for a GPA of 3.6 to 4.0, Giỏi for 3.2 to 3.59, Khá for 2.5 to 3.19 and Trung bình for 2.0 to 2.49. Giỏi translates literally as good, yet it is the second rank from the top, so a word-for-word rendering undersells it. We write Excellent, Very good, Good and Average, the wording Vietnamese universities use on their own English-language documents, and add the GPA band the ranking stands for.
The học bạ is a booklet, not a sheet
A high school học bạ covers grades 10 to 12 in one booklet: each subject's marks for học kỳ I, học kỳ II and cả năm, a học lực ranking for schoolwork and a hạnh kiểm ranking for conduct, from Tốt down to Yếu, with the homeroom teacher's handwritten comments and the principal's seal on every year. Students on the 2018 curriculum have rèn luyện and học tập results recorded as Tốt, Khá, Đạt or Chưa đạt instead. The booklet runs to many pages with handwriting, so the quote comes from the word count, not from the number of sheets.
Who is asking for your Vietnamese academic transcript translation?
The translation is the same. What changes is whether the recipient wants anything added to it.
Credential evaluators
WES, ECE and similar services ask for a word-for-word certified translation of each page, sent alongside the official transcript.
Admissions offices and school districts accept a certified translation they can read next to the original. A PDF is usually enough; ask for a hard copy if they want one.
Three things that save a day of back and forth on a Vietnamese academic transcript.
01
Send the official copy
An evaluator wants the sealed transcript from the registrar, not a self-printed grade list. Order the translation from the same copy the school issues.
02
Include the grading legend
The scale, the pass mark and the credit system are usually printed at the foot or on the back. Send that part too so it is translated with the grades.
03
Expect more than one page per sheet
A transcript sheet holds far more than 250 words. The quote counts words, not sheets, so a two-sheet transcript may price as four or five pages.
Details and pricing
What is included in a Vietnamese academic transcript translation
One price per page covers the translation and its certification. A page is up to 250 words, and the quote tells you the page count before you pay.
Everything on the academic transcript is translated, including stamps, seals and handwritten notes. Tell us the English spelling you use for each name when you order.
Which pages of the học bạ do I translate for a US college?
All three years, including the comment pages, since admissions offices read the conduct ranking and the teacher's remarks as part of the record. Colleges that ask for grades 9 through 12 also need the lớp 9 pages from your trường trung học cơ sở học bạ, which is a separate booklet. Send both and we translate them in one order with the same subject names throughout.
My transcript says Hình thức đào tạo: Vừa làm vừa học. Does an evaluator care?
Yes, which is why we translate it exactly. Chính quy is the full-time regular program, vừa làm vừa học, called tại chức on older records, is the in-service program for working adults, từ xa is distance learning and liên thông is the bridge program from a cao đẳng to a university degree. Evaluators treat these differently, and leaving the line out or softening it is the kind of change that gets a translation rejected.
Can you translate a US transcript into Vietnamese for a school in Vietnam?
Yes. A student moving back is placed in a grade by the Sở Giáo dục và Đào tạo on the strength of the US report cards and transcript, translated into Vietnamese. Universities in Vietnam admitting a transfer student ask for the same. We translate the records and can notarize the translation; confirm with the school whether it wants the notarization done in Vietnam.
How much does a certified translation cost?
Certified translation is $25 per page, with a page counted as up to 250 words. Notarization, a mailed physical copy and an apostille are optional and priced separately.
How long does a certified translation take?
Standard turnaround starts at 24 hours and depends on the length and language of your documents. If you have a deadline, include it in your quote request.
