Polish transcript translation to English for a credential evaluator, a graduate school, a licensing board or a school district. A Polish university has no transcript in the US sense, so the record arrives as a suplement do dyplomu, a karta przebiegu studiów from the dziekanat or an indeks, and we translate whichever one you hold, course codes and grading legend included.
A Polish university does not print a transcript on request the way a US registrar does. The grades live in two or three documents, and an evaluator wants the one that matches the diploma.
Suplement do dyplomu
Every graduate since 2005 receives a suplement do dyplomu with the diploma: the courses semester by semester, the grade and ECTS credits for each, the thesis title and the examiners, and a description of the grading scale. It is the document evaluators treat as the transcript. Universities issue it in Polish and, on request, in English, and the English version with the university stamp is usually accepted as issued, so send us the Polish one only when that is all you have.
Karta przebiegu studiów and the indeks
A student who has not graduated, or who left before finishing, gets a karta przebiegu studiów or wykaz ocen printed by the dziekanat from the records system, stamped and signed by the dean's office. Graduates from before the suplement, and some after, hold an indeks, the booklet in which each lecturer entered a grade and a signature by hand, semester by semester, with the praktyki and the thesis defence at the end. A handwritten indeks takes longer to read than a printout, and we mark any entry the ink has not survived.
The 2 to 5 scale and the zaliczenie
Universities grade from 2, niedostateczny, to 5, bardzo dobry, with 3,5 and 4,5 in between and the half marks written as plus dostateczny or dobry plus. Many courses end with a zal., a zaliczenie, which is a pass with no grade at all, and a US reader who sees a column of them can take the student for ungraded. The translation shows each grade as printed, with the decimal comma, explains zal. once, and leaves any GPA calculation to the evaluator.
Who is asking for your Polish academic transcript translation?
The translation is the same. What changes is whether the recipient wants anything added to it.
Credential evaluators
WES, ECE and similar services ask for a word-for-word certified translation of each page, sent alongside the official transcript.
Admissions offices and school districts accept a certified translation they can read next to the original. A PDF is usually enough; ask for a hard copy if they want one.
Three things that save a day of back and forth on a Polish academic transcript.
01
Send the official copy
An evaluator wants the sealed transcript from the registrar, not a self-printed grade list. Order the translation from the same copy the school issues.
02
Include the grading legend
The scale, the pass mark and the credit system are usually printed at the foot or on the back. Send that part too so it is translated with the grades.
03
Expect more than one page per sheet
A transcript sheet holds far more than 250 words. The quote counts words, not sheets, so a two-sheet transcript may price as four or five pages.
Details and pricing
What is included in a Polish academic transcript translation
One price per page covers the translation and its certification. A page is up to 250 words, and the quote tells you the page count before you pay.
Everything on the academic transcript is translated, including stamps, seals and handwritten notes. Tell us the English spelling you use for each name when you order.
Does WES accept your translation of a Polish transcript?
Evaluators ask for a word-for-word certified translation of each document not in English, sent with a copy of the original, and that is what we deliver. For Poland, WES and other evaluators may also require the university to send the documents directly or to confirm them, so read their country page for the documents list first and translate from the same copies the school sends.
The suplement is in English but the dziekanat letters are not. What do I send you?
Only what is Polish. A zaświadczenie o ukończeniu studiów, a letter confirming the thesis defence date, a wykaz ocen for a semester abroad or a stamped list of hours per course are usually issued in Polish only, and evaluators and licensing boards want each of them in English. Send those and keep the English suplement as the university issued it.
My child is starting a US school with a Polish świadectwo szkolne. Do you translate that?
Yes. The end-of-year świadectwo from a szkoła podstawowa or a liceum is one page, with the subjects on the front and the school stamp and signatures on the back. The marks are words as well as figures, and we translate both so the school counsellor can place the child in the right grade. Send every year the district asks for; each certificate is a separate page.
How much does a certified translation cost?
Certified translation is $25 per page, with a page counted as up to 250 words. Notarization, a mailed physical copy and an apostille are optional and priced separately.
How long does a certified translation take?
Standard turnaround starts at 24 hours and depends on the length and language of your documents. If you have a deadline, include it in your quote request.
