Polish contract translation of an umowa o pracę, an umowa sprzedaży, an umowa najmu, a notarial deed or a company agreement into certified English, and US contracts into Polish for a Polish employee, buyer or court. We keep the Kodeks cywilny article references and the Polish terms that have no US counterpart, and explain them in a note.
Polish contract terms that do not map onto US ones
A Polish contract leans on the Kodeks cywilny and the Kodeks pracy for everything it does not say, so a literal English rendering can leave out the rule the parties relied on.
Zadatek, zaliczka and kara umowna
A zadatek is a deposit the buyer forfeits if they back out and the seller must repay double if the seller does; a zaliczka is simply an advance returned on termination. Translating both as "deposit" erases the difference the parties fought over. A kara umowna is a contractual penalty a Polish court may reduce but will enforce, unlike a penalty clause in a US contract, so we write "contractual penalty" and do not soften it to "liquidated damages".
Employment and civil-law contracts
An umowa o pracę under the Kodeks pracy must state the type of contract, the place of work, the pay and the start date, and a fixed-term contract turns indefinite after thirty-three months or a fourth consecutive contract. An umowa zlecenie or an umowa o dzieło is a civil-law contract with no leave, no notice periods and ZUS rules of its own, and a US reader who sees "employment contract" on either draws the wrong conclusion. The translation names the type exactly, which matters for an L-1 or H-1B file and for a Polish pension record.
Notarial deeds and company agreements
A sale of real estate in Poland is void unless made as an akt notarialny, so a property contract is a notary's deed with a repertorium number, the parties' PESEL numbers, the księga wieczysta number of the land register entry and a fee clause. A spółka z o.o. is set up by an umowa spółki in the same form or through the S24 online template, and the KRS extract travels with it. For a US bank, an immigration petition or a court we translate the deed, the land register references and the notary's clauses as printed, and leave numbers like NIP and REGON unchanged with their meaning noted.
Who is asking for your Polish legal contract translation?
The translation is the same. What changes is whether the recipient wants anything added to it.
Courts
A contract offered as evidence in a US court is filed with a complete English translation and a signed certification from the translator. Add notarization if the local rules ask for it.
Employment contracts and leases filed with a visa petition need a complete English translation and a signed certification from the translator. No notarization is needed.
Three things that save a day of back and forth on a Polish legal contract.
01
Send the signed version with every annex
Schedules, annexes and the signature page are part of the contract. Upload the executed copy so the translation shows the signatures, initials and dates.
02
Tell us the terms you already use
If your company translates a term a certain way, or a party name has an official English form, put it in the order notes. The translation follows your list.
03
Say where the translation is going
A contract going to a court, a lender or USCIS needs a complete translation with a signed certification. Say in the order notes who will read it.
Details and pricing
What is included in a Polish legal contract translation
One price per page covers the translation and its certification. A page is up to 250 words, and the quote tells you the page count before you pay.
Everything on the legal contract is translated, including stamps, seals and handwritten notes. Tell us the English spelling you use for each name when you order.
I hired a worker in Poland. Does the contract need to be in Polish?
Yes. The ustawa o języku polskim requires that an employment contract, and a consumer contract, with someone living in Poland and performed in Poland be made in Polish; an English version may sit beside it, but the Polish text governs unless the employee asked for the foreign language. We translate your US template into Polish for that purpose and keep the English alongside for your HR file. A Polish lawyer should check the notice periods and leave terms, since US at-will wording has no effect under the Kodeks pracy.
Do you certify a Polish contract translation for USCIS?
Yes. An umowa o pracę proves employment for an EB-2, an L-1 or a marriage-based case, and an umowa najmu or a property deed proves residence or assets. We translate the whole document, annexes, aneksy raising the pay and the signature block included, since a partial translation is a reason for a request for evidence. The certification is signed and names the document by its Polish title.
Can you translate a contract for a Polish court or notary?
For the parties and their lawyers, yes. A Polish court or notariusz will require the Polish version from a tłumacz przysięgły, and a notary will not sign a deed with a foreign party who does not understand Polish unless a sworn translator or interpreter is present. That appointment exists only in Poland, so our translation gets the English-speaking party through the negotiation and the lawyer's review, and the sworn version is a separate step at the notary's end.
How much does a certified translation cost?
Certified translation is $25 per page, with a page counted as up to 250 words. Notarization, a mailed physical copy and an apostille are optional and priced separately.
How long does a certified translation take?
Standard turnaround starts at 24 hours and depends on the length and language of your documents. If you have a deadline, include it in your quote request.
