Arabic Contract Translation

Arabic contract translation of an employment contract from Saudi Arabia or the UAE, an Egyptian sale or lease, a Gulf company's memorandum of association or a supply agreement into certified English, and US contracts into Arabic for a partner, an employee or a court in the Arab world. We keep the الطرف الأول and الطرف الثاني structure, the Hijri dates and the civil code terms, and explain in a note what has no US equivalent.

Terms an Arabic contract borrows from the civil codes

Most Arab civil codes descend from the Egyptian code of 1948, so a contract from Cairo, Damascus, Baghdad or Kuwait says things the same way, and the Gulf adds sponsorship and Islamic finance terms of its own.

العربون, الشرط الجزائي and القوة القاهرة

An عربون is earnest money with a rule attached: under the Egyptian Civil Code the buyer who backs out forfeits it and the seller who backs out repays double, so "deposit" alone loses the clause. A شرط جزائي is a penalty the parties fix in advance, which a court may reduce but will enforce, and we write "penalty clause", not "liquidated damages". Force majeure is القوة القاهرة, often paired with الظروف الطارئة, unforeseen circumstances, a separate doctrine that lets a judge rebalance the contract. Each gets the Arabic term in brackets the first time it appears.

Gulf employment contracts and the Arabic that prevails

A Saudi employment contract is generated on the Qiwa platform and an Emirati one on the MOHRE form, both bilingual, both stating that the Arabic text governs. They record the profession as registered for the work permit, the pay, the probation period and the notice period, and the profession on the permit can differ from the title the employee uses. For an L-1, an EB-2 or a visa interview, USCIS reads the translation for job title, dates and pay, so we translate the Arabic column even where an English column exists and flag where the two disagree.

Leases and company papers

A lease is the contract a marriage case uses most, to show a couple lived together. An Egyptian عقد إيجار signed under the 1996 rent law runs for a fixed term, while an older rent-controlled lease can pass through a family for decades, and the translation keeps the dates and the parties exactly as written. A Dubai tenancy contract registered through Ejari is bilingual, so only the stamps and handwritten lines need translation. An Egyptian company's عقد تأسيس and its commercial register extract come with the capital and manager fields as printed.

Who is asking for your Arabic legal contract translation?

The translation is the same. What changes is whether the recipient wants anything added to it.

Courts

A contract offered as evidence in a US court is filed with a complete English translation and a signed certification from the translator. Add notarization if the local rules ask for it.

Certified translations

USCIS

Employment contracts and leases filed with a visa petition need a complete English translation and a signed certification from the translator. No notarization is needed.

Banks and lenders

An underwriter reviewing a foreign lease, a purchase agreement or a loan contract accepts a certified translation they can read next to the original.

Before you upload

Three things that save a day of back and forth on a Arabic legal contract.

01

Send the signed version with every annex

Schedules, annexes and the signature page are part of the contract. Upload the executed copy so the translation shows the signatures, initials and dates.

02

Tell us the terms you already use

If your company translates a term a certain way, or a party name has an official English form, put it in the order notes. The translation follows your list.

03

Say where the translation is going

A contract going to a court, a lender or USCIS needs a complete translation with a signed certification. Say in the order notes who will read it.

Arabic Legal Contract FAQ

Most questions about pricing and turnaround can be answered faster by requesting a quote.

Request a Quote

Will a Saudi or Emirati court accept your Arabic translation of my US contract?
Not for filing. Those courts take translations only from translators licensed there. Our Arabic version is for negotiating with the counterparty and briefing the local lawyer, who has the filed copy made by a licensed office. A dispute in the DIFC or ADGM courts runs in English and needs no Arabic version at all, so check the contract's jurisdiction clause first.
The contract is dated in Hijri and the amounts are in riyals. What do you convert?
Dates get the Gregorian equivalent written beside the Hijri one; amounts are never converted. Riyals, dirhams and pounds stay in the currency printed, and where the Arabic gives a sum in words and figures we translate both, since a mismatch between them is itself a fact a reader may need. The company's round ختم and the commercial registration number on the signature page are described and transcribed, not left as an unexplained image.
Does USCIS want the whole Arabic contract translated, or only the main terms?
The whole document. A Gulf employment contract proves the job for an EB or L-1 petition and a lease proves where a couple lived for a marriage case, and an officer who finds an untranslated annex, a pay amendment or a stamped last page issues a request for evidence. We translate every page including the blank-looking ones with only a stamp, and the signed certification names the contract by its Arabic title.
How much does a certified translation cost?
Certified translation is $25 per page, with a page counted as up to 250 words. Notarization, a mailed physical copy and an apostille are optional and priced separately.
How long does a certified translation take?
Standard turnaround starts at 24 hours and depends on the length and language of your documents. If you have a deadline, include it in your quote request.
