Punjabi adoption documents translation for families who adopted inside the family in Punjab, usually a nephew, niece or grandchild, and now need the papers in English for USCIS, a US court or a school. We translate the adoption deed, the affidavits, the ceremony photos and any order behind it.
Sikh and Hindu families in Punjab adopt under the Hindu Adoptions and Maintenance Act, 1956, which covers Sikhs. Most of these adoptions are recorded in a deed, not a court order.
The ਗੋਦਨਾਮਾ at the sub-registrar
The adoption deed, the godnama, is written on stamp paper by a deed writer and registered at the tehsil sub-registrar. It names the giving parents and the adoptive parents with their fathers' names and villages, the child's age, and recites that the child was given and taken in a ceremony, often at the gurdwara. The back of each page carries registration endorsements, thumb impressions and witnesses. We translate all of it, page by page.
What USCIS checks against the deed
For a child petition, USCIS looks at the child's age on the date of adoption and at proof of two years of custody and shared residence. The deed date, the ceremony date and the registration date can all differ, sometimes by years. We translate each date where it appears and do not reconcile them, because the officer needs to see exactly what the deed says.
The papers around the deed
A family adoption file usually also has the child's birth certificate in the birth parents' names, affidavits from both couples, a photo of the ceremony pasted to a page, and later a school certificate in the new name. When the child's name changed with the adoption, we keep both forms visible so the link is clear on paper.
Who is asking for your Punjabi adoption documents translation?
The translation is the same. What changes is whether the recipient wants anything added to it.
USCIS
USCIS asks for a complete English translation and a signed certification from the translator. No notarization is needed.
A state court recognizing a foreign adoption, or a vital records office issuing a US birth certificate, accepts a certified translation of the decree, notarized where the clerk asks for it.
Three things that save a day of back and forth on a Punjabi adoption documents.
01
Send the full adoption file in one order
The court decree, the consent of the birth parents, the home study and the child's new birth certificate are read together. One order keeps the names and dates consistent across all of them.
02
Include the stamps and the finality note
A foreign adoption decree is complete only with the court seal and the note that it is final. Scan the back of each page and any attached certificates.
03
Give us the child's name as it will be registered
Tell us the spelling the child's passport or visa application uses. The translation keeps the name as the record writes it and notes the English spelling.
Details and pricing
What is included in a Punjabi adoption documents translation
One price per page covers the translation and its certification. A page is up to 250 words, and the quote tells you the page count before you pay.
Everything on the adoption documents is translated, including stamps, seals and handwritten notes. Tell us the English spelling you use for each name when you order.
The deed is the core document, but USCIS decides whether the adoption counts under US immigration law, including the age and custody rules, and may ask for more. We do not advise on eligibility. We translate the deed and the supporting papers accurately so the officer has the full record in English.
Our adoption went through CARA or a District Magistrate. Do you translate those?
CARA paperwork and most adoption orders under the Juvenile Justice Act are issued in English and may not need translating. What usually needs work in a Punjab file is the Gurmukhi around them: a home study note, a panchayat letter or a birth parent's affidavit. Upload the set and we tell you which pages need translating.
The adoption happened years before the deed was registered. Does that matter?
Indian law does not require a deed for a valid adoption, so many families register one later. A registered deed gets a legal presumption in Indian courts, but USCIS still looks at when the giving and taking happened. The translation keeps the ceremony date the deed recites and the later registration date side by side.
How much does a certified translation cost?
Certified translation is $25 per page, with a page counted as up to 250 words. Notarization, a mailed physical copy and an apostille are optional and priced separately.
How long does a certified translation take?
Standard turnaround starts at 24 hours and depends on the length and language of your documents. If you have a deadline, include it in your quote request.
