Hindi medical records translation for a US doctor, an insurer, a civil surgeon, a disability claim or an asylum case. Most Indian hospital paperwork is written in English. What reaches us in Hindi is the OPD slip from a district hospital, the handwritten prescription, the medico-legal injury report and the disability certificate from Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan.
Which parts of an Indian medical file are in Hindi
A private hospital in Delhi or Lucknow types its discharge summary in English. The paper trail from a government hospital or a village clinic does not.
The OPD parchi and the prescription
District hospitals and community health centres in the Hindi states hand each patient a पर्ची, an OPD slip with the registration number, the complaint, the diagnosis and the prescription, all in the doctor's hand. Drug names appear in Roman letters in the middle of Hindi text, and the dose is Hindi shorthand: सुबह-शाम for morning and evening, खाने के बाद for after food, १ गोली for one tablet. The translation gives the drug name as written, spells the dose out in English words, and marks a drug name it cannot read as illegible instead of guessing one.
Medico-legal injury reports
An injury treated at a government hospital after an assault or a road accident is entered as a medico-legal case, and the medical officer's injury report lists each wound by number with its size, its position and whether it is simple or grievous, the two categories Indian criminal law uses. Road accident claimants file these reports with a US lawyer or an insurer. We translate the report as the form words it, keep the Hindi legal term beside the English, and do not soften or upgrade the classification.
Disability certificates from the medical board
A दिव्यांगता प्रमाण पत्र comes from the district medical board, states the condition, the percentage of disability and whether it is permanent or due for review, and newer ones carry a UDID number. Social Security, a US school writing an IEP and an immigration lawyer seeking a medical exception all read this document. We translate the board members' designations, the hospital seal and the handwritten percentage exactly, since those are what a US reader uses to decide how much weight the certificate carries.
Who is asking for your Hindi medical records translation?
The translation is the same. What changes is whether the recipient wants anything added to it.
Doctors and hospitals
A new physician needs your diagnoses, medications and reports in English before the first visit. Each report is translated in full and certified, so it can go into your chart as it is.
Health, travel and disability insurers ask for the medical report and the itemized bill in English, translated completely and certified, before they pay a claim for care received abroad.
ECFMG accepts a word-for-word translation on a translation service's letterhead, signed by the translator with a certification statement. Summaries and extracts are refused. Our certified translations follow that format.
Three things that save a day of back and forth on a Hindi medical records.
01
Send the pages a doctor would read
The discharge letter, the current medication list and the reports it relies on cover most visits. A full hospital file can run to hundreds of pages, so start with those and add the rest if the recipient asks.
02
Letterhead, stamps and signatures count
The hospital header, the doctor's stamp and the registration number on a prescription identify who wrote the record. Scan each page whole, including forms and the back of any page with a stamp.
03
Tell us who will read it
A physician needs the clinical pages, an insurer the diagnosis and the itemized bill, ECFMG a word-for-word translation of the entire document. Say which in the order notes, with the patient's name as the passport spells it.
Details and pricing
What is included in a Hindi medical records translation
One price per page covers the translation and its certification. A page is up to 250 words, and the quote tells you the page count before you pay.
Everything on the medical records is translated, including stamps, seals and handwritten notes. Tell us the English spelling you use for each name when you order.
My Indian discharge summary is in English. Is there anything to translate?
Often not. If the typed pages are in English and the only Hindi is the hospital's name in the letterhead, send it as it is. If a page carries a Hindi stamp, a handwritten Hindi note from the ward or a Hindi referral slip stapled to it, that page is only partly readable to a US doctor, and we translate the Hindi on it and certify the page.
Can you translate an Ayurvedic or AYUSH prescription?
Yes. A prescription from a government AYUSH dispensary or a vaidya is in Hindi and names formulations such as त्रिफला चूर्ण or अश्वगंधा that have no English drug name. The translation transliterates the formulation, adds the plain English where one exists, and keeps the dosing instructions as given, so a US physician can check what you are taking against the medicines they prescribe.
Do you translate US medical records into Hindi?
Yes, when the reader needs Hindi. Indian doctors read English, so a hospital in India rarely asks for one. It comes up for a patient or a relative who reads only Hindi, or for a district court in a Hindi-speaking state hearing an accident or maintenance case.
How much does a certified translation cost?
Certified translation is $25 per page, with a page counted as up to 250 words. Notarization, a mailed physical copy and an apostille are optional and priced separately.
How long does a certified translation take?
Standard turnaround starts at 24 hours and depends on the length and language of your documents. If you have a deadline, include it in your quote request.
