Korean background check translation for a US employer, a screening company, a licensing board or an adoption home study: the 경력증명서, the 건강보험자격득실확인서, the 주민등록초본, the 병적증명서 and the 성범죄경력 조회 회신서, translated into certified English so a screener can confirm each date and employer.
How a Korean work and residence history gets verified
Korea has no single background report. Screeners assemble one from government certificates that each prove one thing, and most of them print from 정부24.
Employment: 경력증명서 and the 건강보험자격득실확인서
A former employer writes a 경력증명서 with dates, title and duties, but a screener who cannot reach the company uses the 건강보험자격득실확인서 from 국민건강보험공단 instead. It lists every employer that enrolled you in health insurance, with the 취득일 and 상실일, and it is the standard Korean proof of a job history because it comes from the insurer rather than the employer. We translate both so the dates can be matched, and romanize each company name the way the company spells it in English.
Address and identity: 주민등록초본
The 주민등록초본 from the 주민센터 or 정부24 is the address history, each move with its 전입 date. The applicant chooses what it includes when ordering: past addresses in full or only recent years, changes to name or other details, and the 병역 military line. A screener checking seven or ten years needs the full address history ticked, so order it that way before you send it to us. We translate each address in US order, keep the Korean beside it, and reproduce the 주민등록번호 as printed.
Military service and the child-safety check
Korean men hold a 병적증명서 from the 병무청 with the service branch, rank, 입대일 and 전역일, which fills the gap years a screener will otherwise flag. For a job with children in Korea, an employer applies for a 성범죄경력 및 아동학대관련범죄 전력 조회 회신서 through the police, and some US schools and camps ask Korean hires for it too. We translate the form headings and the 해당 없음 result exactly.
Who is asking for your Korean background check translation?
The translation is the same. What changes is whether the recipient wants anything added to it.
USCIS and the National Visa Center
Green card and visa applications ask for police and court records with a complete English translation and a signed certification. No notarization is needed.
An employer or a professional board checking your record from abroad accepts a certified translation they can read next to the original. Ask whether they want a hard copy.
An FBI or state background check going to another country usually needs an apostille and a translation into that country's language, sometimes notarized.
Three things that save a day of back and forth on a Korean background check.
01
Get the check issued first, then order the translation
Most background checks are valid for a few months. Have it issued, then upload it, so the translation and the original are current together.
02
Send the report the checklist names
A police certificate, a court record and an FBI identity history summary are different documents. Read the employer or consulate checklist and send the one it asks for.
03
Keep the verification code in the scan
Online reports carry a QR code or a reference number that the recipient uses to confirm the result. Scan the whole page so it is translated with the rest.
Details and pricing
What is included in a Korean background check translation
One price per page covers the translation and its certification. A page is up to 250 words, and the quote tells you the page count before you pay.
Everything on the background check is translated, including stamps, seals and handwritten notes. Tell us the English spelling you use for each name when you order.
Which document does a US screening company usually need?
Ask them which gap they are checking. For employment it is the 건강보험자격득실확인서; for education, a 졸업증명서 from the university; for criminal history, the police 범죄경력회보서, which has its own page; for address, the 초본. Screening companies accept certified translations, and each certificate is usually one page at $25.
The company I worked for in Korea has closed. How do I prove the job?
A closed company cannot issue a 경력증명서, but the government records outlive it. The 건강보험자격득실확인서 still lists the employer with your start and end dates, and the 가입자가입증명 from 국민연금공단 shows the same periods from the pension side. Together they are what a screener accepts, and we translate both.
Can you translate the 건강보험자격득실확인서 printed from 정부24?
Yes. Send the PDF with the 발급번호 and the barcode intact, since a screener can verify it on 정부24 with that number. The columns are 사업장명, 자격취득일, 자격상실일 and the 가입자 구분 of 직장 or 지역, and we translate every row rather than summarizing the employers.
How much does a certified translation cost?
Certified translation is $25 per page, with a page counted as up to 250 words. Notarization, a mailed physical copy and an apostille are optional and priced separately.
How long does a certified translation take?
Standard turnaround starts at 24 hours and depends on the length and language of your documents. If you have a deadline, include it in your quote request.
