Korean bank statement translation for an I-20 financial statement, a visa interview, a mortgage lender or a sponsor's assets: the 거래내역서, the 잔액증명서 and the printed 통장 from KB국민, 신한, 우리, 하나, NH농협, IBK기업, 카카오뱅크 and 토스뱅크, translated into certified English with every entry and balance kept.
Korean banks issue the balance, the history and the passbook as separate things, and a US form that says bank statement may want any of them.
잔액증명서, the balance certificate
A Korean bank issues a 잔액증명서 at a branch or online for a small fee, stating the balance on one date with the bank's stamp and a 발급번호. Most Korean banks will print it in English on request, and for a student visa that English version is often enough. The Korean version names the account type, 보통예금, 정기예금 or 적금, and sometimes carries a line that the account is 지급정지, frozen for the day of issue. We translate that line, since a reader who misses it will think the money was withdrawn.
거래내역서 and the 적요 column
The transaction history printed from internet banking or at an ATM lists 거래일시, 적요, 출금, 입금, 잔액 and 거래점. The 적요 column holds the counterparty name or an abbreviation: 급여 for salary, 타행이체 for a transfer from another bank, 체크카드 for a debit card purchase, CMS for a direct debit, 이자 for interest. Names are in Hangul, so we romanize them the same way on every line and keep the Hangul in brackets, so a sponsor's name on the statement ties to the I-864 or the lease.
The 통장 passbook
Many Koreans still use a 통장, a passbook the bank prints entries into. A photographed passbook is a valid statement, but its lines are tight, the memo column is cut to a few syllables and amounts run in 원 with no currency sign. The translation shows amounts as KRW exactly as printed and adds nothing in dollars. Send the cover page with the account number and every page with entries.
Who is asking for your Korean bank statement translation?
The translation is the same. What changes is whether the recipient wants anything added to it.
USCIS and the National Visa Center
Affidavit of support and consular processing cases take bank statements with a complete English translation and a signed certification. No notarization is needed.
UKVI asks for a certified translation of any document not in English, with the translator's details and the date on it. Statements for the maintenance requirement are the usual request.
A mortgage lender or a landlord checking income accepts a certified translation of your statements. Digital delivery as a PDF is usually enough; ask for a hard copy if they want one.
Three things that save a day of back and forth on a Korean bank statement.
01
Download the statement rather than photographing it
A PDF from online banking is sharper than a photo and keeps every figure legible. If you only have paper, scan each page flat with the header and the closing balance in frame.
02
Send a complete period
A consulate or a lender names the months it wants. Send every page of each month, including pages with no transactions, so the running balance reads without gaps.
03
Tell us whose account it is
Give us the account holder's name as the passport spells it. Account numbers, amounts and the currency are copied exactly as printed; the headings and descriptions are translated.
Details and pricing
What is included in a Korean bank statement translation
One price per page covers the translation and its certification. A page is up to 250 words, and the quote tells you the page count before you pay.
Everything on the bank statement is translated, including stamps, seals and handwritten notes. Tell us the English spelling you use for each name when you order.
No. The translation keeps the won figures exactly as printed, labelled KRW. A university or a lender converts at its own rate on its own date, and a translation that put in a dollar figure would be a calculation, not a translation. If a form needs a dollar total, write it on the form and attach our translation of the source.
How long is a translated 거래내역서?
A 거래내역서 is mostly figures and short memos, so one printed page usually stays under 250 words and costs $25 to translate. A 잔액증명서 is one page. A passbook with years of entries adds up, so send only the months the recipient asked for, often the last three to six.
I live in Korea and have US accounts. Will anyone there want the statements in Korean?
Possibly. Korean residents report foreign accounts above a threshold to the 국세청 under the 해외금융계좌 신고 rules, a Korean bank may ask for US statements before a large 해외송금, and a 가정법원 wants them in a divorce or an inheritance case. We translate the statement into Korean and can notarize it.
How much does a certified translation cost?
Certified translation is $25 per page, with a page counted as up to 250 words. Notarization, a mailed physical copy and an apostille are optional and priced separately.
How long does a certified translation take?
Standard turnaround starts at 24 hours and depends on the length and language of your documents. If you have a deadline, include it in your quote request.
