Vietnamese bank statement translation to English for a US university's financial proof, an I-864 sponsor, a lender tracing a deposit, or a landlord. We translate the sao kê tài khoản, the sổ tiết kiệm, the giấy xác nhận số dư and the hợp đồng tiền gửi from Vietcombank, BIDV, VietinBank, Agribank, Techcombank, ACB and the rest, with a signed certification.
A Vietnamese bank rarely posts a monthly statement. What people hold is a printout they asked for, a passbook or a stamped letter, and each needs its own handling.
Sao kê tài khoản: the printout and its columns
A sao kê is printed at the branch on request, stamped with the branch's red seal and signed by the giao dịch viên and the kiểm soát viên. Columns run ngày giao dịch, số tham chiếu, diễn giải, ghi nợ, ghi có and số dư, with số dư đầu kỳ and số dư cuối kỳ at the top and bottom. Figures use a dot for thousands, so 150.000.000 đ is one hundred fifty million đồng; the translation keeps the figures and the currency and adds no conversion. The diễn giải column is full of shorthand, CK for chuyển khoản, NAPAS transfers and remittance lines marked kiều hối, which we write out.
Sổ tiết kiệm: a passbook, not a statement
Most family savings in Vietnam sit in a sổ tiết kiệm, a term deposit passbook showing the số tiền gửi, the kỳ hạn, the lãi suất, the ngày gửi and the ngày đáo hạn, with a line added at each rollover. For an I-20 or a visa file the date of deposit is what a reviewer reads, since it shows how long the money has been there, and we translate every rollover line rather than the cover alone. Newer banks issue the deposit as a hợp đồng tiền gửi or a screen in the app instead, and we translate those the same way.
Giấy xác nhận số dư: the stamped letter
The giấy xác nhận số dư tài khoản is a letter from the branch confirming the balance on a given day, with the account number, the currency and the branch seal. Vietcombank and BIDV will issue one in English and Vietnamese for a fee, and a bilingual letter needs no translation. A Vietnamese-only letter is one page, so $25, and the translation keeps the issuing date, because a school or consulate wants a balance letter issued within a set number of days of the application.
Who is asking for your Vietnamese bank statement translation?
The translation is the same. What changes is whether the recipient wants anything added to it.
USCIS and the National Visa Center
Affidavit of support and consular processing cases take bank statements with a complete English translation and a signed certification. No notarization is needed.
UKVI asks for a certified translation of any document not in English, with the translator's details and the date on it. Statements for the maintenance requirement are the usual request.
A mortgage lender or a landlord checking income accepts a certified translation of your statements. Digital delivery as a PDF is usually enough; ask for a hard copy if they want one.
Three things that save a day of back and forth on a Vietnamese bank statement.
01
Download the statement rather than photographing it
A PDF from online banking is sharper than a photo and keeps every figure legible. If you only have paper, scan each page flat with the header and the closing balance in frame.
02
Send a complete period
A consulate or a lender names the months it wants. Send every page of each month, including pages with no transactions, so the running balance reads without gaps.
03
Tell us whose account it is
Give us the account holder's name as the passport spells it. Account numbers, amounts and the currency are copied exactly as printed; the headings and descriptions are translated.
Details and pricing
What is included in a Vietnamese bank statement translation
One price per page covers the translation and its certification. A page is up to 250 words, and the quote tells you the page count before you pay.
Everything on the bank statement is translated, including stamps, seals and handwritten notes. Tell us the English spelling you use for each name when you order.
The money is in my parents' sổ tiết kiệm in Vietnam. Will that work for my I-20?
A university's financial form usually accepts a sponsor's funds with a letter from the sponsor, so the translated passbook goes in with the parents' giấy cam kết tài trợ, their letter undertaking to pay. Send both and we translate them together, so the sponsor's name and the amount read the same in the letter and the passbook.
A US lender wants to source a wire from Vietnam. Which pages?
The underwriter wants to see the money leave a Vietnamese account and arrive in yours. Send the sao kê covering the month of the transfer, the lệnh chuyển tiền or the bank's giấy xác nhận chuyển tiền quốc tế showing the amount, the beneficiary and the purpose declared to the bank, and a gift letter if a relative sent it. Vietnamese banks ask the sender to state a purpose for an outbound transfer, and that line is translated as written.
My sao kê came as a PDF from the banking app, with no red seal. Can you translate it?
Yes. Most Vietnamese banks now send a sao kê điện tử by email or through the app, and some carry a digital signature block where the branch seal would be. We translate it as it stands and describe the signature block, so the reader knows what authenticates it. Whether a PDF without a seal is enough is the recipient's call; some US schools and consulates still ask for the stamped printout from the branch.
How much does a certified translation cost?
Certified translation is $25 per page, with a page counted as up to 250 words. Notarization, a mailed physical copy and an apostille are optional and priced separately.
How long does a certified translation take?
Standard turnaround starts at 24 hours and depends on the length and language of your documents. If you have a deadline, include it in your quote request.
