Korean tax return translation for a US mortgage, an affidavit of support, a late-filing catch-up with the IRS or a foreign tax credit, or a US return translated into Korean for the 국세청: the 종합소득세 신고서, the 근로소득 원천징수영수증, the 소득금액증명 and the 납세증명서, translated and certified at $25 per page.
Most Korean wage earners never file a return. Their employer settles the year's tax in 연말정산, so the proof of income is a certificate rather than a return.
근로소득 원천징수영수증
The withholding receipt an employer issues after the year-end settlement is the closest thing to a W-2 and a return in one. It gives the 귀속연도, the 총급여 gross salary, each deduction, the 결정세액 finally due and the 소득세 and 지방소득세 already withheld, with the employer's 사업자등록번호. A US lender, an I-864 reviewer or an accountant preparing Form 1116 for a foreign tax credit reads 결정세액, so we translate every box label and keep the box numbers.
소득금액증명 and 납세증명서 from 홈택스
The 국세청 issues two certificates on demand through 홈택스 or 정부24. The 소득금액증명 states income by year and type, 근로, 사업 or 기타, and the 납세증명서 states that no tax is owing as of the issue date. Both carry a 발급번호 and the 세무서장 seal, and anyone can check them on 홈택스 with that number. We reproduce the issue number and the verification text exactly, since that is how a US reader confirms the document is real.
종합소득세 신고서 for the self-employed
A 개인사업자, or anyone with rental, freelance or several sources of income, files the 종합소득세 신고서 in May for the prior calendar year, with the 부가가치세 신고 for VAT filed separately. The return runs across schedules of 수입금액, 필요경비 and 소득금액, and the 지방소득세 goes to the 시청 or 구청 rather than the 국세청. We translate the schedules you send and label each one so a US accountant can tell income tax from VAT and local tax.
Who is asking for your Korean tax return translation?
The translation is the same. What changes is whether the recipient wants anything added to it.
USCIS and the National Visa Center
Sponsors filing an affidavit of support, and applicants proving income, submit tax returns with a complete English translation and a signed certification. No notarization is needed.
IRCC accepts a certified translation with the translator's affidavit. Order the certified translation and add notarization if your application guide asks for it.
A mortgage lender or a tax office assessing foreign income accepts a certified translation of the return and its schedules. Ask whether they want a hard copy and add it at checkout.
Three things that save a day of back and forth on a Korean tax return.
01
Send the filed return, not the draft
The recipient wants the version the tax office accepted, with its filing stamp, receipt number or online confirmation. Include the confirmation page if your return was filed electronically.
02
Include every schedule and attachment
The income summary on the first page refers to schedules behind it. A consulate or a lender reading the total will look for the pages that support it.
03
Give us the taxpayer name as the passport spells it
Taxpayer numbers, amounts and the currency are copied exactly as printed. Tell us the English spelling of each name on the return so it matches the rest of your file.
Details and pricing
What is included in a Korean tax return translation
One price per page covers the translation and its certification. A page is up to 250 words, and the quote tells you the page count before you pay.
Everything on the tax return is translated, including stamps, seals and handwritten notes. Tell us the English spelling you use for each name when you order.
My I-864 sponsor files taxes in Korea, not the US. What do we send?
The 소득금액증명 for the most recent year, or the last three years if the sponsor has them, and the 원천징수영수증 that matches each year. Together they show income and tax paid the way an IRS transcript would. Each is one or two pages at $25 per page, and we keep the 발급번호 so the officer can see it is a government document.
I live in Korea and paid US tax. Does the 국세청 need my 1040 in Korean?
It may. A Korean resident with US income claims the 외국납부세액공제, and the 국세청 or the 세무사 preparing the Korean return may ask for the Form 1040 and the IRS account transcript in Korean. We translate the 1040 with its schedules and keep the IRS line numbers so the figures can be cross-referenced.
Does the Korean tax year match the US one?
Yes. Both run January to December, so the Korean 귀속연도 lines up with the US tax year on Form 1116 or in a catch-up filing for years spent in Korea. The difference is timing: Korean wage tax is settled in February and the 종합소득세 return is due at the end of May, so a Korean document for a year is usually in hand before the US return for that year is filed.
How much does a certified translation cost?
Certified translation is $25 per page, with a page counted as up to 250 words. Notarization, a mailed physical copy and an apostille are optional and priced separately.
How long does a certified translation take?
Standard turnaround starts at 24 hours and depends on the length and language of your documents. If you have a deadline, include it in your quote request.
