Punjabi criminal record translation for an N-400, an I-485, a visa interview or a US criminal defence lawyer. Punjab Police write their case papers in Gurmukhi, so an arrest in Punjab, even one that went nowhere, leaves a Punjabi file that USCIS will want to read in English.
If you answered yes to an arrest question, or might have to, the officer wants the whole record of what happened: the charge, the outcome and the dates.
The FIR
A First Information Report opens with the ਮੁਕੱਦਮਾ ਨੰਬਰ, the date, the ਥਾਣਾ and the sections charged, then gives the complainant's statement in Punjabi. Older FIRs cite the IPC; those registered since July 2024 cite the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. We translate the sections exactly as written and do not swap in a US offence name, because the officer needs the Indian charge.
Challan is not a traffic ticket
In Punjab the police chargesheet filed in court is called a challan. A US reader who sees challan may assume a traffic fine. When the police close a case instead, they file a cancellation report or an untraced report. We translate the term with its meaning in brackets the first time, so the officer can tell a case sent for trial from one that was dropped.
Kalandras and preventive arrests
Many people from Punjab were held for a day under the preventive sections during a protest or a village dispute, recorded in a kalandra put before the executive magistrate. No crime was charged, but it is an arrest, and USCIS asks about every arrest. We translate the kalandra and the magistrate's discharge order, so the record shows how it ended.
Who is asking for your Punjabi criminal record translation?
The translation is the same. What changes is whether the recipient wants anything added to it.
USCIS and the National Visa Center
Consular processing asks for police certificates with a complete English translation and a signed certification. No notarization is needed.
IRCC accepts a certified translation with the translator's affidavit. Order the certified translation and add notarization if your application guide asks for it.
Three things that save a day of back and forth on a Punjabi criminal record.
01
Get the certificate first, then the translation
Most police certificates are valid for a few months. Have the certificate issued, then upload it, so the translation and the original are current together.
02
Check which authority the checklist names
A state letter, a federal letter and a court record are different documents. Read the consulate or USCIS checklist and send the one it asks for, or all of them.
03
Keep the QR code and verification number in the scan
Online certificates carry a QR code or a verification code. They are translated with the rest and are how a consulate confirms the document is genuine.
Details and pricing
What is included in a Punjabi criminal record translation
One price per page covers the translation and its certification. A page is up to 250 words, and the quote tells you the page count before you pay.
Everything on the criminal record is translated, including stamps, seals and handwritten notes. Tell us the English spelling you use for each name when you order.
The court judgment is in English. Do I still need the Punjabi FIR translated?
Often yes. Higher courts in Punjab write judgments in English, but the FIR, the challan and some lower court orders are in Punjabi. USCIS usually asks for the charging document and the final disposition. We translate the Punjabi pieces and you file them with the English judgment.
Can you tell me whether my record will cause a problem with USCIS?
No. That question is for an immigration lawyer. We translate what the papers say, accurately and in full, including anything unhelpful, because a translation that leaves things out does more harm than the record does. Your lawyer then decides how to present it.
Can you translate a Pakistani FIR?
Yes. FIRs in Pakistani Punjab are generally written in Urdu, and we translate them as Urdu. A complainant's statement or an application written in Shahmukhi Punjabi is translated as Punjabi. Upload the file and we confirm the language page by page.
How much does a certified translation cost?
Certified translation is $25 per page, with a page counted as up to 250 words. Notarization, a mailed physical copy and an apostille are optional and priced separately.
How long does a certified translation take?
Standard turnaround starts at 24 hours and depends on the length and language of your documents. If you have a deadline, include it in your quote request.
