Tagalog death certificate translation is mostly about what sits beside the PSA record. The death certificate, Municipal Form 103, is in English. A barangay certification of a death at home, an affidavit explaining a late registration or an extrajudicial settlement among heirs can be in Filipino, and an insurer or US court will want those in English.
A death in a Philippine hospital usually produces a clean English certificate. The paperwork grows when the death happened at home, in a province, or long before anyone needed the record.
Deaths at home without a doctor
When nobody with a medical license attended the death, the cause on Form 103 comes from what the family told the municipal health officer, and it can read as a lay description. The barangay captain's certification that the person died at home is often written in Filipino. A US life insurer looks hard at that page when the cause is vague, so the translation stays plain and literal and does not turn a description into a diagnosis.
Extrajudicial settlement of the estate
Heirs in the Philippines often divide an estate without going to court, by signing an extrajudicial settlement and having it published in a newspaper. The deed may be in English or Filipino. It lists each heir, each parcel by tax declaration or title number, and each share. A US probate court or a bank holding the deceased's account will want it translated with the land descriptions intact.
Deaths registered late
A death registered months or years late, often an older relative who died in a barrio, comes with an affidavit for delayed registration and sometimes a statement from the cemetery or parish. Whoever handled the burial wrote these, in whatever language they use, and in Luzon that is often Filipino. They explain the gap between the date of death and the registry date, which is the first thing a USCIS officer asks about.
Who is asking for your Tagalog death certificate translation?
The translation is the same. What changes is whether the recipient wants anything added to it.
USCIS
USCIS asks for a complete English translation and a signed certification from the translator. No notarization is needed.
Three things that save a day of back and forth on a Tagalog death certificate.
01
Send the civil record, not only the medical form
The registry act is the document recipients ask for. Add the doctor's certificate as a second file if an insurer or a court wants the cause of death.
02
Include the reverse and the stamps
Issue stamps, the registrar's signature and folio numbers often sit on the back or at the edge. Photograph both sides flat with the whole page in frame.
03
Give us the names as they appear elsewhere
Tell us the English spelling of the deceased and of the spouse or parents named on the record, so the translation matches the petition, policy or probate file it joins.
Details and pricing
What is included in a Tagalog death certificate translation
One price per page covers the translation and its certification. A page is up to 250 words, and the quote tells you the page count before you pay.
Everything on the death certificate is translated, including stamps, seals and handwritten notes. Tell us the English spelling you use for each name when you order.
Does USCIS need a translated death certificate for a widow or widower case?
Not the PSA certificate itself, which is in English. A surviving spouse filing Form I-360, or a petitioner proving a prior spouse died before a remarriage, submits the PSA copy as issued. Any Filipino statement filed with it, such as a barangay certification or a late-registration affidavit, needs a certified translation.
What do you translate for a life insurance claim on a death in the Philippines?
The Filipino parts of the claim file. Insurers usually want the PSA certificate, a physician's statement and, for an accident, a police report. Philippine hospital and police records are normally English; barangay records and witness statements often are not. We translate those, and can mail notarized hard copies when the insurer wants paper.
Is the cause of death ever written in Tagalog?
Occasionally, on older handwritten forms from small municipalities where the registrar wrote down the family's words. Bangungot, a sudden death during sleep, is the classic case and has no single English medical term. The translation renders it literally, keeps the Filipino word in brackets and adds a short translator's note.
How much does a certified translation cost?
Certified translation is $25 per page, with a page counted as up to 250 words. Notarization, a mailed physical copy and an apostille are optional and priced separately.
How long does a certified translation take?
Standard turnaround starts at 24 hours and depends on the length and language of your documents. If you have a deadline, include it in your quote request.
