Tagalog background check translation for an immigrant visa, a US employer, a caregiver agency or a school. The NBI clearance the US embassy asks for is issued in English. The barangay clearance and the certificate of good moral character signed by a Punong Barangay, a principal or a parish priest are where Filipino appears.
A Filipino applicant collects clearances from several levels of government, and only the lowest level tends to write in Filipino.
NBI clearance
The National Bureau of Investigation clearance is the Philippine police certificate for US immigrant visas, issued in English with a QR code. A HIT means the name matched a record and release was held for verification; if the match was someone else, the clearance released afterwards still shows no record. It needs no translation. When a HIT is a real case, the papers behind it are what we translate.
Barangay clearance
A barangay clearance certifies that the holder lives in the barangay and has no derogatory record there. Many barangays print it in English, but others use a Filipino template that opens Ito ay nagpapatunay na and ends with the purpose, such as para sa trabaho, for employment. We translate the text, the purpose line, the dry seal and the Punong Barangay's signature block, and note the date of issue, since recipients often want one issued within recent months.
Good moral character certificates
Schools, parishes and barangays issue a Katibayan ng Mabuting Asal, a certificate of good moral character. Philippine schools ask for it at admission and transfer, and a US college, a nursing board or an employer screening a caregiver may ask too. When it is in Filipino, we translate the issuer's title, punong-guro for principal or kura paroko for parish priest, and the date, which shows how current the statement is.
Who is asking for your Tagalog background check translation?
The translation is the same. What changes is whether the recipient wants anything added to it.
USCIS and the National Visa Center
Green card and visa applications ask for police and court records with a complete English translation and a signed certification. No notarization is needed.
An employer or a professional board checking your record from abroad accepts a certified translation they can read next to the original. Ask whether they want a hard copy.
An FBI or state background check going to another country usually needs an apostille and a translation into that country's language, sometimes notarized.
Three things that save a day of back and forth on a Tagalog background check.
01
Get the check issued first, then order the translation
Most background checks are valid for a few months. Have it issued, then upload it, so the translation and the original are current together.
02
Send the report the checklist names
A police certificate, a court record and an FBI identity history summary are different documents. Read the employer or consulate checklist and send the one it asks for.
03
Keep the verification code in the scan
Online reports carry a QR code or a reference number that the recipient uses to confirm the result. Scan the whole page so it is translated with the rest.
Details and pricing
What is included in a Tagalog background check translation
One price per page covers the translation and its certification. A page is up to 250 words, and the quote tells you the page count before you pay.
Everything on the background check is translated, including stamps, seals and handwritten notes. Tell us the English spelling you use for each name when you order.
Do I need to translate my NBI clearance for the embassy?
No. It is in English, and the National Visa Center and the US embassy in Manila accept it as issued. Check that it is still valid on the date of your interview. We translate only documents that carry Filipino text.
Can a barangay clearance stand in for the NBI clearance on my visa case?
No. For an immigrant visa the State Department lists the NBI clearance as the Philippine police certificate, and the embassy will not take a barangay clearance in its place. The barangay clearance is for local purposes and for US employers or schools that ask for it. If you hold both, only the barangay one is likely to need translating.
How quickly can I get a barangay clearance translated?
A barangay clearance is one page, $25 with a signed certification, and standard turnaround starts from 24 hours. Add notarization or a mailed hard copy if the employer or school asks for one. If you also have a good moral certificate, send both in the same order.
How much does a certified translation cost?
Certified translation is $25 per page, with a page counted as up to 250 words. Notarization, a mailed physical copy and an apostille are optional and priced separately.
How long does a certified translation take?
Standard turnaround starts at 24 hours and depends on the length and language of your documents. If you have a deadline, include it in your quote request.
