Tagalog Transcript Translation

Tagalog transcript translation for a Philippine school record is usually a partial job. The college Transcript of Records and the high school Form 137 are in English, but subjects taught in Filipino keep Filipino titles, and DepEd report cards rate values in Filipino. Those lines are what an evaluator or US school asks about.

Filipino lines on a Philippine school record

A credential evaluator reading a Philippine transcript meets English nearly everywhere, then a run of subject titles it cannot read.

Subject titles in Filipino

Elementary and junior high records list Araling Panlipunan (social studies), Edukasyon sa Pagpapakatao (values education) and Edukasyong Pantahanan at Pangkabuhayan (home economics and livelihood). Senior high core subjects include Komunikasyon at Pananaliksik sa Wika at Kulturang Pilipino. Each title is translated with the Filipino kept beside it, so the evaluator can match it to the DepEd curriculum.

The DepEd report card

School Form 9, the card parents sign each quarter, rates the learner on four core values: Maka-Diyos, Makatao, Makakalikasan and Makabansa, marked AO, SO, RO or NO. A US school placing a transferring child sometimes asks for this card rather than the permanent record. We translate the values, the marking legend and the adviser's remarks, which teachers often write in Filipino.

College TOR and the 1.0 to 5.0 scale

A college TOR is English, and many universities grade from 1.0, the highest, to 5.0, a failing mark, with 3.0 as the lowest pass. That runs opposite to a US GPA, and converting it is the evaluator's job. The translation reproduces the grades as printed. Filipino general education courses, such as Sining ng Pakikipagtalastasan, are translated by title.

Who is asking for your Tagalog academic transcript translation?

The translation is the same. What changes is whether the recipient wants anything added to it.

Credential evaluators

WES, ECE and similar services ask for a word-for-word certified translation of each page, sent alongside the official transcript.

Certified translations

ECFMG and medical boards

Medical graduates send transcripts through ECFMG, which asks for an English translation of every document that is not in English.

ECFMG translations

Schools and universities

Admissions offices and school districts accept a certified translation they can read next to the original. A PDF is usually enough; ask for a hard copy if they want one.

Certified translations

Before you upload

Three things that save a day of back and forth on a Tagalog academic transcript.

01

Send the official copy

An evaluator wants the sealed transcript from the registrar, not a self-printed grade list. Order the translation from the same copy the school issues.

02

Include the grading legend

The scale, the pass mark and the credit system are usually printed at the foot or on the back. Send that part too so it is translated with the grades.

03

Expect more than one page per sheet

A transcript sheet holds far more than 250 words. The quote counts words, not sheets, so a two-sheet transcript may price as four or five pages.

Request a Quote

Does a credential evaluator need my TOR translated?
Evaluators accept documents issued in English, and a Philippine TOR mostly is. Where course titles are in Filipino, read your evaluator's instructions: some read past a few titles, others ask for an English version. A certified translation of the Filipino lines usually fits on one page at $25.
Is Form 137 the same as SF10?
Yes. Form 137 is the older name for the learner's permanent academic record, which DepEd now calls School Form 10. Schools send it to the receiving school directly, so for a US school you may hold only a certified copy. It is an English form with Filipino subject names, and we translate those names.
My TOR has a purpose line, like for evaluation purposes. Is that a problem?
No. Philippine registrars often print why the copy was requested in the remarks area, and some evaluators ask that the copy name them. The line is in English and stays as printed. If you ordered the TOR for one evaluator and now need it for another, ask the registrar for a new copy rather than a translation.
How much does a certified translation cost?
Certified translation is $25 per page, with a page counted as up to 250 words. Notarization, a mailed physical copy and an apostille are optional and priced separately.
How long does a certified translation take?
Standard turnaround starts at 24 hours and depends on the length and language of your documents. If you have a deadline, include it in your quote request.
