Tagalog marriage certificate translation for a CR-1, IR-1 or K-1 case covers the Filipino papers behind a Philippine marriage. The PSA marriage certificate itself is in English. What comes in Filipino is the parental consent, the cohabitation affidavit for a marriage without a license, and the sworn statements relatives give later.
The Filipino documents behind a Philippine marriage
The Certificate of Marriage, Municipal Form 97, is an English form filled in by the solemnizing officer. The papers that allowed the wedding to happen are where Filipino appears.
Parental consent and parental advice
Under the Family Code, a party aged 18 to 21 needs a parent's written consent before the license is issued, and one aged 21 to 25 needs parental advice. Parents in the provinces often sign these as a sworn statement in Filipino before the local civil registrar. A consular officer looking at a young couple may ask for them, and we translate them with the registrar's stamp and the date the license was released.
Article 34 marriages without a license
A couple who lived together as husband and wife for at least five years, with no legal impediment, can marry without a license on a joint affidavit. The PSA certificate then cites Article 34 where a license number would go. That affidavit is the proof the marriage was valid. When it is in Filipino, the translation keeps a phrase such as nagsama bilang mag-asawa in brackets beside the English.
A bride's names after the wedding
A Filipina who takes her husband's surname usually moves her maiden surname into the middle name field: Maria Santos Cruz marrying a Reyes becomes Maria Cruz Reyes. Her birth certificate, old passport and marriage certificate then show three arrangements of the same names. Where her Filipino affidavits use one of those versions, we add a translator's note listing the others, so the officer reads them as one woman.
Who is asking for your Tagalog marriage certificate translation?
The translation is the same. What changes is whether the recipient wants anything added to it.
USCIS
USCIS asks for a complete English translation and a signed certification from the translator. No notarization is needed.
IRCC accepts a certified translation with the translator's affidavit. Order the certified translation and add notarization if your application guide asks for it.
Three things that save a day of back and forth on a Tagalog marriage certificate.
01
Send every page, including the register entry
Many certificates are an extract of a register entry. If you have both the extract and the register page, upload both so the witnesses, the property regime and the marginal notes are translated too.
02
Spell both names the way the passports do
The translation keeps each name as the certificate writes it. Tell us the spelling each spouse uses in English so the recipient can match the two documents.
03
Check whether the recipient wants a recent copy
USCIS and many consulates ask for a certificate issued recently. Get the fresh copy first and then order its translation, so the issue dates match.
Details and pricing
What is included in a Tagalog marriage certificate translation
One price per page covers the translation and its certification. A page is up to 250 words, and the quote tells you the page count before you pay.
Everything on the marriage certificate is translated, including stamps, seals and handwritten notes. Tell us the English spelling you use for each name when you order.
Do I need to translate a PSA marriage certificate for the I-130?
Usually not. The PSA copy is in English and goes into the petition untranslated. You need a translation when a remark or annotation was written in Filipino, or when your file includes Filipino affidavits such as the joint affidavit for an Article 34 marriage.
We married in church. Is the church certificate enough?
No. The church certificate is a sacramental record. The legal record is the PSA certificate built from the Municipal Form 97 that the priest or minister filed with the local civil registrar, and it can take months to reach the PSA. Philippine church certificates are usually English; if yours is in Filipino, we translate it as supporting evidence.
My parents wrote a statement about our relationship in Filipino. Can you translate it?
Yes. Statements from parents, sponsors or guests who attended the wedding are often written in Filipino by relatives more at ease in it. Write down how each person knows you, since an officer weighs a godparent's statement differently from a neighbor's. We translate each one in full at $25 per page, with a signed certification for the consulate or USCIS.
How much does a certified translation cost?
Certified translation is $25 per page, with a page counted as up to 250 words. Notarization, a mailed physical copy and an apostille are optional and priced separately.
How long does a certified translation take?
Standard turnaround starts at 24 hours and depends on the length and language of your documents. If you have a deadline, include it in your quote request.
