Written for French financial statement records

Comptes annuels under the Plan Comptable Général and SYSCOHADA

French-language accounts follow a chart of accounts fixed by law rather than US GAAP, and a translation has to keep that structure visible instead of forcing it into an American layout.

Bilan, compte de résultat, annexe and the liasse fiscale

A French company's comptes annuels are the bilan, the compte de résultat and the annexe, approved by the assemblée générale and filed at the greffe du tribunal de commerce, where anyone can buy them through Infogreffe. The same figures reach the tax office as the liasse fiscale, forms 2050 to 2057 under the régime réel normal or the shorter 2033 series under the régime simplifié, and clients often hold the liasse itself. The translation says which document it is, keeps the form numbers and the SIREN, and reproduces the layout en euros or en K€ as printed.

Line items a US accountant will not recognise

The compte de résultat splits the year into résultat d'exploitation, résultat financier and résultat exceptionnel, and the last of these has had no counterpart in US GAAP since 2015. On the bilan, capitaux propres holds the capital social, the réserve légale and the report à nouveau, which is retained earnings carried forward, and the asset side opens with immobilisations incorporelles, corporelles and financières. We translate the headings with the PCG account class kept where it is printed, and we do not reclassify; the reader's accountant does.

Audit reports, Québec and the OHADA zone

A company over the size thresholds has a commissaire aux comptes, whose rapport certifies the accounts with or without réserves and travels as its own document. Québec statements come with a rapport de l'auditeur indépendant, a rapport de mission d'examen or a compilation report, still often headed avis au lecteur. A lender reads those three very differently, so the translation names which one it is. Seventeen states from Senegal to the DRC use the SYSCOHADA révisé, in force since 2018, which prescribes a bilan, a compte de résultat, a tableau des flux de trésorerie and notes annexes in francs CFA; the Belgian schéma complet or abrégé filed with the Banque Nationale de Belgique has its own numbered model.

Who is asking for your French financial statement translation?

The translation is the same. What changes is whether the recipient wants anything added to it.

Banks and lenders

A lender assessing a business loan or a foreign buyer's finances accepts a certified translation of the audited statements. Send the complete set so the figures can be checked against the notes.

Certified translations

Immigration investor programs

EB-5 and E-2 petitions document the source of funds with financial statements. USCIS asks for a complete English translation and a signed certification from the translator.

Courts and bankruptcy trustees

A trustee or a court reviewing assets held abroad wants the statements translated in full and certified. Add notarization if the court asks for it.

Before you upload

Three things that save a day of back and forth on a French financial statement.

01

Send the statements with their notes

The balance sheet, the income statement and the cash flow statement are read with the notes that explain them. Upload the full report, including the auditor's letter, so nothing is cited that the translation lacks.

02

Keep the tables as tables

A clean PDF, or the spreadsheet the report was made from, lets the translator keep each column where it is. Photos of printed tables are slower and easier to misread.

03

Tell us the audience

A bank reads a statement differently from a tax office or a court. Say in the order notes who will receive it so the accounting terms fit that reader.

French Financial Statement FAQ

Most questions about pricing and turnaround can be answered faster by requesting a quote.

Request a Quote

What should go with the accounts for an E-2 or L-1 petition?
The adjudicator wants to see that the company exists, trades and is tied to the US entity. Clients usually send an extrait Kbis under three months old, the statuts, the procès-verbal of the assemblée approving the accounts, and the rapport de gestion; an OHADA company sends its RCCM extract in place of the Kbis. We translate each in full, because a translation of selected pages is marked as an extract and may be questioned.
Are the euro or CFA franc figures converted to dollars?
No. Figures stay as printed, including a header reading en milliers d'euros or en millions de F CFA, and a translator's note explains the decimal comma and the space between thousands. The franc CFA is pegged to the euro at a fixed rate, which makes the arithmetic easy, but the conversion is still the reader's to do at the date they choose.
Do you translate US financial statements into French?
Yes. US accounts go into French for a French or Belgian bank, a partner, an investor or a tender under the Code de la commande publique, and a foreign company with a succursale in France files its parent's accounts at the greffe each year. The greffe may ask for a traducteur assermenté for that filing, and we are not sworn in France. For the bank, the partner and the tender, our certified translation is what people use.
How much does a certified translation cost?
Certified translation is $25 per page, with a page counted as up to 250 words. Notarization, a mailed physical copy and an apostille are optional and priced separately.
How long does a certified translation take?
Standard turnaround starts at 24 hours and depends on the length and language of your documents. If you have a deadline, include it in your quote request.
