Portuguese financial statement translation to English of a Brazilian company's demonstrações contábeis, the balanço patrimonial, DRE, DFC, DMPL and notas explicativas, for an E-2 or L-1 petition, a US bank or investor, an auditor consolidating a Brazilian subsidiary, or a court. We also translate US statements into Portuguese for a Brazilian partner, bank or tender.
Written for Portuguese (Brazil) financial statement records
Brazilian statements follow the CPC, and the English should show it
Brazil brought its accounting rules in line with IFRS through the Comitê de Pronunciamentos Contábeis, so the line items are familiar. The vocabulary and a few instruments are Brazil's own.
The set and who signs it
A full set under the Lei das S.A. is the balanço patrimonial, the demonstração do resultado do exercício (DRE), the demonstração do resultado abrangente, the DFC for cash flows, the DMPL for changes in equity and the notas explicativas. A listed company adds the relatório da administração and the relatório do auditor independente. Each statement is signed by an administrador and by the contador with a CRC number from the Conselho Regional de Contabilidade. A Ltda. on the Simples Nacional often produces only a balanço and a DRE pulled from the ECD, and that pair is what most visa petitions contain.
Lines with no US counterpart
Juros sobre capital próprio is a payment to shareholders that is deductible for the company and appears as both a distribution and a financial expense; US GAAP has nothing like it, so we keep the name and explain it once. Receita bruta less ICMS, PIS, COFINS and ISS gives receita líquida, and those four taxes on sales are named one by one rather than collapsed into sales tax. Reserva legal is the statutory reserve the Lei das S.A. requires. Older statements still carry ativo permanente and passivo exigível a longo prazo, terms retired in 2008; we translate them as they stand and note that they are the old classification.
Thousands of reais, columns and the auditor's opinion
Most sets are headed em milhares de reais, and that unit is carried to every page of the translation. Comparative columns are dated 31/12/2025 and 31/12/2024, negatives sit in parentheses, and the header gives the CNPJ and the NIRE from the Junta Comercial. An auditor's relatório ends with an opinião sem ressalva, com ressalva, adversa or an abstenção de opinião, with a parágrafo de ênfase where there is one, and a US bank reads those four words before anything else, so they are translated as unqualified, qualified, adverse and disclaimer, the terms a US auditor uses.
Who is asking for your Portuguese (Brazil) financial statement translation?
The translation is the same. What changes is whether the recipient wants anything added to it.
Banks and lenders
A lender assessing a business loan or a foreign buyer's finances accepts a certified translation of the audited statements. Send the complete set so the figures can be checked against the notes.
EB-5 and E-2 petitions document the source of funds with financial statements. USCIS asks for a complete English translation and a signed certification from the translator.
Three things that save a day of back and forth on a Portuguese (Brazil) financial statement.
01
Send the statements with their notes
The balance sheet, the income statement and the cash flow statement are read with the notes that explain them. Upload the full report, including the auditor's letter, so nothing is cited that the translation lacks.
02
Keep the tables as tables
A clean PDF, or the spreadsheet the report was made from, lets the translator keep each column where it is. Photos of printed tables are slower and easier to misread.
03
Tell us the audience
A bank reads a statement differently from a tax office or a court. Say in the order notes who will receive it so the accounting terms fit that reader.
Details and pricing
What is included in a Portuguese (Brazil) financial statement translation
One price per page covers the translation and its certification. A page is up to 250 words, and the quote tells you the page count before you pay.
Everything on the financial statement is translated, including stamps, seals and handwritten notes. Tell us the English spelling you use for each name when you order.
What does an E-2 or L-1 petition want from the Brazilian company?
The balanço and DRE for the last years, the contrato social or estatuto with every alteração registered at the Junta Comercial, the Comprovante de Inscrição e de Situação Cadastral for the CNPJ, and often a declaração de faturamento signed by the contador. Many petitions add bank statements and tax filings, which go under their own document types. The quote shows the page count before you pay, so send the full set and choose.
Our subsidiary reports in thousands of reais. Do you convert to dollars?
No. A translation is not a restatement, so every figure stays in reais at the unit printed on the original, and the unit heading goes on each translated page. Your accountant converts at the rate the auditor or the group policy sets. If the statements were prepared in reais and already carry a dollar column, we translate both columns as they appear.
Our contador only produced a balancete for this year. Can that be translated?
Yes. A balancete de verificação is a trial balance, usually monthly or quarterly, listing each account with its debits, credits and balance. It is unaudited and is titled that way in English, so it is not mistaken for a closed balanço. New companies in an E-2 file often have only balancetes for the current year, and whether that is enough is for the petition's lawyer to decide.
How much does a certified translation cost?
Certified translation is $25 per page, with a page counted as up to 250 words. Notarization, a mailed physical copy and an apostille are optional and priced separately.
How long does a certified translation take?
Standard turnaround starts at 24 hours and depends on the length and language of your documents. If you have a deadline, include it in your quote request.
