Punjabi death certificate translation into certified English for an estate, an insurance claim, a survivor benefit or an immigration file. We translate the registrar's certificate from Indian Punjab, the papers that record the cause of death, and the revenue records that pass a family's land to the heirs.
The death certificate a Punjab registrar issues under the Registration of Births and Deaths Act 1969 records the fact of the death and very little else. The papers around it often matter as much.
No cause of death on the certificate
The certificate gives the name, the S/o or W/o line, the age, the date and place of death and the permanent address. The cause is recorded separately on the Medical Certificate of Cause of Death, which a hospital fills in and the registrar keeps. A death at home in a village often has no medical certificate at all. If a US insurer asks for the cause, ask the hospital for the certificate or the discharge summary and we translate it with the death certificate.
Age instead of a birth date
The form records age at death, often a round number from a relative's estimate, and no date of birth. We translate the age as written and never work a birth date out of it. If the age clashes with a passport or an earlier petition, the translation leaves the conflict visible and you explain it in a cover letter.
Land passes by mutation
When a landowner in Punjab dies, the heirs get the land through an intkal, a mutation the patwari enters and a revenue officer sanctions, which then shows in the jamabandi. These are Gurmukhi documents full of khasra numbers, shares written as fractions and the names of every heir. A US probate court or an estate lawyer reading the family's claim usually needs the mutation order translated with the death certificate.
Who is asking for your Punjabi death certificate translation?
The translation is the same. What changes is whether the recipient wants anything added to it.
USCIS
USCIS asks for a complete English translation and a signed certification from the translator. No notarization is needed.
Three things that save a day of back and forth on a Punjabi death certificate.
01
Send the civil record, not only the medical form
The registry act is the document recipients ask for. Add the doctor's certificate as a second file if an insurer or a court wants the cause of death.
02
Include the reverse and the stamps
Issue stamps, the registrar's signature and folio numbers often sit on the back or at the edge. Photograph both sides flat with the whole page in frame.
03
Give us the names as they appear elsewhere
Tell us the English spelling of the deceased and of the spouse or parents named on the record, so the translation matches the petition, policy or probate file it joins.
Details and pricing
What is included in a Punjabi death certificate translation
One price per page covers the translation and its certification. A page is up to 250 words, and the quote tells you the page count before you pay.
Everything on the death certificate is translated, including stamps, seals and handwritten notes. Tell us the English spelling you use for each name when you order.
Can you translate an antim ardas card or a newspaper notice?
Yes. The printed card for the antim ardas or bhog, and the death notice placed in a Punjabi paper such as Ajit, are Gurmukhi and carry the date and the family's names. They are secondary evidence, useful where the death was registered late or not at all, and we translate them with the certificate.
The death was never registered. Can it still be?
Yes, late. Once a year has passed, the registrar needs an order from a magistrate before entering the death, so the family ends up with an application, affidavits from relatives and the order itself, often in Punjabi. We translate the order and the certificate that follows it, which shows a reader why the registration date is so late.
What about a death certificate from Pakistani Punjab?
The union council issues it in Urdu, often handwritten, and NADRA issues a computerized certificate in English that may not need translating. Older union council registers sometimes have Shahmukhi Punjabi in the remarks column, and we translate those lines as Punjabi with the Urdu around them.
How much does a certified translation cost?
Certified translation is $25 per page, with a page counted as up to 250 words. Notarization, a mailed physical copy and an apostille are optional and priced separately.
How long does a certified translation take?
Standard turnaround starts at 24 hours and depends on the length and language of your documents. If you have a deadline, include it in your quote request.
