Punjabi divorce decree translation into certified English for USCIS, IRCC or a US court. We translate decree sheets, judgments and motion orders from the district and family courts of Indian Punjab, and divorce papers from Pakistani Punjab, so the officer can see when and how the earlier marriage ended.
An Indian divorce is a court decree, and the court file holds several papers. Which ones you translate depends on how the divorce was granted.
English, Punjabi or both
Punjab law has required its lower courts to work in Punjabi since 2008, but many judgments are still typed in English. Petitions, recorded statements and some decree sheets are Gurmukhi, and a single file can switch languages from page to page. The Punjab and Haryana High Court works in English. We translate the Punjabi pages and tell you which English ones can go in as they are.
Mutual consent under section 13B
Most divorces here are by mutual consent under section 13B of the Hindu Marriage Act. The couple make a first motion, wait six months unless the court waives it, then make a second motion, and the decree follows. The date the marriage ended is the date of the decree, not the first motion. If you remarried, that date is what an officer checks against your new marriage certificate.
Panchayat deeds and talaq
In villages a separation is sometimes settled before the panchayat and written up on stamp paper as a divorce deed. We translate it, but a marriage registered under the Hindu Marriage Act is normally ended by a court, and an officer may not accept the deed alone. In Pakistani Punjab a talaq becomes effective through the union council, which issues a certificate in Urdu; we translate that too.
Who is asking for your Punjabi divorce decree translation?
The translation is the same. What changes is whether the recipient wants anything added to it.
USCIS
USCIS asks for a complete English translation and a signed certification from the translator. No notarization is needed.
A county clerk issuing a marriage license, or a family court, needs to see the prior marriage ended. A certified translation of the decree is accepted, notarized where the office asks.
Three things that save a day of back and forth on a Punjabi divorce decree.
01
Send every page of the judgment
A decree is complete only with its reasoning, its resolutive points and the finality note or certificate. Pages missing from the middle leave the translation unable to show the divorce is final.
02
Add the registry act or the margin note
Where the divorce was recorded at a civil registry, the act or the note on the marriage record is often the page a clerk wants. Upload it with the judgment.
03
Tell us if only part was requested
If the recipient asked for the ruling alone, say so at checkout. Otherwise we translate the full document, which is what USCIS requires.
Details and pricing
What is included in a Punjabi divorce decree translation
One price per page covers the translation and its certification. A page is up to 250 words, and the quote tells you the page count before you pay.
Everything on the divorce decree is translated, including stamps, seals and handwritten notes. Tell us the English spelling you use for each name when you order.
The decree sheet and the judgment it rests on. For a mutual consent divorce, add the orders on the first and second motions. For a contested decree, add anything showing it became final, such as a certificate that no appeal was filed. Upload the whole file and we point out the pages that are already in English.
My divorce was granted ex parte. What should be translated?
An ex parte decree means your former spouse did not appear. The file then holds the order to proceed ex parte and the proof of service, often a summons report or a newspaper publication. Translate those with the decree. They show the other side was told about the case, which is the first thing a reader asks.
Does IRCC need the divorce translated for a spousal sponsorship?
Yes. If either partner was married before, IRCC asks for proof the earlier marriage ended, and anything not in English or French needs a translation. IRCC has its own rules on who may translate and what goes with it, which our IRCC page sets out.
How much does a certified translation cost?
Certified translation is $25 per page, with a page counted as up to 250 words. Notarization, a mailed physical copy and an apostille are optional and priced separately.
How long does a certified translation take?
Standard turnaround starts at 24 hours and depends on the length and language of your documents. If you have a deadline, include it in your quote request.
