Tagalog Tax Return Translation

Tagalog tax return translation is usually a question before it is an order. BIR income tax returns, Form 2316 and the TIN card are printed and filled in English, and USCIS, consulates and lenders read them as they are. What reaches us in Filipino is the paperwork around the return: affidavits of no income, barangay certificates and handwritten notes.

Philippine tax papers, and the ones in Filipino

Philippine income tax is filed on English BIR forms. Filipino appears when someone has no return to show and has to explain why.

Form 2316 and substituted filing

An employee with one employer for the whole year usually files no return. The employer issues BIR Form 2316, the certificate of compensation paid and tax withheld, and under substituted filing that stands in for the return. A US officer asking for a Philippine tax return should get the 2316, in English, with a short note on substituted filing. Self-employed people and mixed earners file Form 1701 or 1701A. None of these need translation unless someone wrote on them in Filipino.

Overseas workers and family members with no income

Income an overseas Filipino worker earns abroad is not taxed in the Philippines, and a parent with no income files nothing. Both cases end with a document in place of a return: a Sinumpaang Salaysay ng Walang Kita, an affidavit of no income, or a barangay Sertipikasyon stating the person has no work. These are commonly written in Filipino. We translate the statement, the affiant's details and the notarial jurat.

The cedula in the notary block

A Philippine notary's jurat cites the affiant's ID, and older affidavits cite the Community Tax Certificate, the cedula, with its number, place and date of issue. The cedula is a local tax receipt, not an income tax filing, and a US reader can mistake it for proof of tax paid on income. The translation gives it its English name with a short note on what it is, and keeps the number and date exactly.

Certified translations

Before you upload

Three things that save a day of back and forth on a Tagalog tax return.

01

Send the filed return, not the draft

The recipient wants the version the tax office accepted, with its filing stamp, receipt number or online confirmation. Include the confirmation page if your return was filed electronically.

02

Include every schedule and attachment

The income summary on the first page refers to schedules behind it. A consulate or a lender reading the total will look for the pages that support it.

03

Give us the taxpayer name as the passport spells it

Taxpayer numbers, amounts and the currency are copied exactly as printed. Tell us the English spelling of each name on the return so it matches the rest of your file.

Tagalog Tax Return FAQ

Most questions about pricing and turnaround can be answered faster by requesting a quote.

Request a Quote

The consulate asked for my income tax return, but I work abroad as an OFW. What do I give them?
Bring your employment contract and payslips from abroad, which are usually in English or the host country's language, and an affidavit explaining that your foreign income is not filed with the BIR. If you swear the affidavit in Filipino, we translate it. Check the consulate's request letter for the exact document it wants.
Do you translate US tax returns into Filipino?
We can, though Philippine offices rarely ask, since the BIR, banks and courts there work in English. The requests we see come from a family member in the Philippines who needs to understand a 1040 or a tax transcript in a support or inheritance matter. We translate the form line by line and keep the line numbers.
What does an affidavit of no income cost to translate?
Most are one page of up to 250 words, so $25 with a signed certification. Notarization and a mailed hard copy are add-ons if the recipient wants them. If the affidavit comes with a barangay certificate, that is a second page.
How much does a certified translation cost?
Certified translation is $25 per page, with a page counted as up to 250 words. Notarization, a mailed physical copy and an apostille are optional and priced separately.
How long does a certified translation take?
Standard turnaround starts at 24 hours and depends on the length and language of your documents. If you have a deadline, include it in your quote request.
