Hindi bank statement translation for an I-864 affidavit of support, a student's proof of funds, a mortgage lender or a visa interview. Indian bank statements print in English. What arrives in Hindi is the handwritten passbook from a village branch, the statement of a district cooperative bank or a gramin bank, and the post office savings passbook.
A statement downloaded from SBI, HDFC or ICICI net banking is in English and needs no translation. The records below are the ones that do.
Passbooks from rural and cooperative banks
At a gramin bank branch or a जिला सहकारी बैंक the passbook cover is bilingual and the entries are stamped or written in Hindi: नकद जमा for a cash deposit, ब्याज for interest, चेक for a cheque, with the teller's initials and the branch stamp. A डाकघर बचत खाता passbook from India Post looks much the same. A fixed deposit receipt, the सावधि जमा रसीद, adds the term, the rate and the maturity date, and it explains a balance that looks too large for the account history.
Lakhs, crores and the rupee
Indian figures group as 1,00,000 for one lakh and 1,00,00,000 for one crore, and a balance written in words reads in lakhs. The translation keeps the amount in rupees, regroups the digits the Western way, and does not convert to dollars; the officer or the underwriter applies the exchange rate of the day. Dates are written day first on every Indian bank record, so 05/03/2024 is 5 March and the translation says so.
What the reader is checking
An I-864 can count the intending immigrant's own assets, including an account in India, if they can be turned into cash within a year, and the officer wants to see the balance and how long it has been there. A university issuing an I-20 wants the sponsor's funds for the first year. A visitor visa interview in Delhi, Mumbai or Hyderabad is conducted in English and the consulate reads an Indian statement without a translation, so a translation is for the US side, not the interview.
Who is asking for your Hindi bank statement translation?
The translation is the same. What changes is whether the recipient wants anything added to it.
USCIS and the National Visa Center
Affidavit of support and consular processing cases take bank statements with a complete English translation and a signed certification. No notarization is needed.
UKVI asks for a certified translation of any document not in English, with the translator's details and the date on it. Statements for the maintenance requirement are the usual request.
A mortgage lender or a landlord checking income accepts a certified translation of your statements. Digital delivery as a PDF is usually enough; ask for a hard copy if they want one.
Three things that save a day of back and forth on a Hindi bank statement.
01
Download the statement rather than photographing it
A PDF from online banking is sharper than a photo and keeps every figure legible. If you only have paper, scan each page flat with the header and the closing balance in frame.
02
Send a complete period
A consulate or a lender names the months it wants. Send every page of each month, including pages with no transactions, so the running balance reads without gaps.
03
Tell us whose account it is
Give us the account holder's name as the passport spells it. Account numbers, amounts and the currency are copied exactly as printed; the headings and descriptions are translated.
Details and pricing
What is included in a Hindi bank statement translation
One price per page covers the translation and its certification. A page is up to 250 words, and the quote tells you the page count before you pay.
Everything on the bank statement is translated, including stamps, seals and handwritten notes. Tell us the English spelling you use for each name when you order.
The passbook has a hundred entries. Is every page $25?
A page is up to 250 words, and a passbook page of dates, amounts and two-word narrations usually fits inside that. Send the cover, the page with the account holder's details and the months the recipient asked for. We do not translate pages you do not send, so leave out the years a sponsor or a lender did not ask about.
Does a bank balance certificate or a solvency certificate need translation?
Those letters come typed in English on the bank's letterhead, and most readers accept them as they are. The manager's stamp and the branch seal are sometimes in Hindi, and a lender or an officer who cannot read them may ask what they say. In that case we translate the stamp text and certify the whole page, with the English reproduced.
My parents' passbook shows a joint account and a nominee. Does that matter?
It can. The account details page gives the mode of operation, single or joint, Either or Survivor or Former or Survivor, often as एकल or संयुक्त in Hindi, and the nominee's name. An officer counting a sponsor's assets reads those lines to see whose money it is. We translate them exactly and write out the bank's abbreviations.
How much does a certified translation cost?
Certified translation is $25 per page, with a page counted as up to 250 words. Notarization, a mailed physical copy and an apostille are optional and priced separately.
How long does a certified translation take?
Standard turnaround starts at 24 hours and depends on the length and language of your documents. If you have a deadline, include it in your quote request.
