Hindi tax return translation for an I-864, an I-130 or a lender who wants a relative's Indian income on paper. The Income Tax Return, the ITR-V acknowledgement and Form 16 are issued in English. The Hindi documents are the tehsil's income certificate, the house tax receipt and the trade licence that a farmer or a shopkeeper holds instead of a return.
Most Hindi speakers who need a tax document translated have never filed an income tax return. The record of their income is a different paper.
The income certificate from the tehsil
The आय प्रमाण पत्र is issued by the tehsildar or the SDM through the state's e-District portal and states the family's annual income in rupees, the applicant's father's or husband's name, the village and the purpose it was sought for, with a certificate number. Agricultural income is exempt from income tax, so a farmer has no return to show; the income certificate and the खतौनी are the proof. We translate the certificate with its number and seal so an officer can see it is a government record and not a self-declaration.
ITR, Form 16 and 26AS are English, but read them right
An Indian return is filed for an assessment year, and AY 2024-25 covers income earned in the financial year from April 2023 to March 2024. A US reader who takes it for calendar 2024 gets the period wrong, so when we certify an ITR page for its Hindi stamps we add a note on the period. The e-filing portal can be used in Hindi, and if your acknowledgement or a notice under section 143(1) came out in Hindi, we translate it field for field against the English form.
Receipts a lender or an officer may ask for
A गृह कर रसीद from the nagar nigam, a लगान रसीद from the lekhpal for land revenue, a Hindi trade licence from the nagar palika and a professional tax receipt are each a page of stamps and handwritten figures. GST registration and returns are in English. The translation gives the issuing office, the receipt number, the period and the amount, which is all a reader is looking for on them.
Who is asking for your Hindi tax return translation?
The translation is the same. What changes is whether the recipient wants anything added to it.
USCIS and the National Visa Center
Sponsors filing an affidavit of support, and applicants proving income, submit tax returns with a complete English translation and a signed certification. No notarization is needed.
IRCC accepts a certified translation with the translator's affidavit. Order the certified translation and add notarization if your application guide asks for it.
A mortgage lender or a tax office assessing foreign income accepts a certified translation of the return and its schedules. Ask whether they want a hard copy and add it at checkout.
Three things that save a day of back and forth on a Hindi tax return.
01
Send the filed return, not the draft
The recipient wants the version the tax office accepted, with its filing stamp, receipt number or online confirmation. Include the confirmation page if your return was filed electronically.
02
Include every schedule and attachment
The income summary on the first page refers to schedules behind it. A consulate or a lender reading the total will look for the pages that support it.
03
Give us the taxpayer name as the passport spells it
Taxpayer numbers, amounts and the currency are copied exactly as printed. Tell us the English spelling of each name on the return so it matches the rest of your file.

What is included in a Hindi tax return translation
One price per page covers the translation and its certification. A page is up to 250 words, and the quote tells you the page count before you pay.
Everything on the tax return is translated, including stamps, seals and handwritten notes. Tell us the English spelling you use for each name when you order.
Does USCIS want an Indian tax return for an I-864?
The return the I-864 asks for is the US sponsor's federal return. Indian income comes into the file when the intending immigrant's own income will continue from the same source after they move, when their Indian assets are counted, or when a university or a lender asks a parent in India to show what they earn. In those cases the English ITR goes in as it is and the Hindi income certificate goes in translated.
I only have Form 16 from my employer. Is that a tax return?
No. Form 16 is the certificate your employer issues for the tax deducted from your salary, and Form 26AS is the department's statement of what was deposited against your PAN. The return is the ITR, and the ITR-V is the acknowledgement that it was filed. Many readers accept Form 16 as income evidence on its own. All three are in English and need a translation only if a Hindi stamp or note was added.
Can a US officer check that the income certificate is genuine?
Certificates issued through the e-District portals carry a certificate number, and newer ones a QR code, which the issuing state's portal verifies. We copy the number and any printed web address exactly, so an officer or a lawyer can run the check. An older handwritten certificate has only the tehsil seal and the officer's signature, and the translation describes both.
How much does a certified translation cost?
Certified translation is $25 per page, with a page counted as up to 250 words. Notarization, a mailed physical copy and an apostille are optional and priced separately.
How long does a certified translation take?
Standard turnaround starts at 24 hours and depends on the length and language of your documents. If you have a deadline, include it in your quote request.
