Punjabi tax return translation starts with a plain fact: an Indian income tax return is filed online in English, and so is the acknowledgement. What reaches us in Gurmukhi is the paper that stands in for a return or explains one, such as a tehsildar's income certificate.
Many families in Punjab earn most of their income from farming, and much of that never appears on an income tax return. The visa officer or USCIS still wants to see it.
Agricultural income and the ITR
Farm income in India is exempt from income tax, so a farmer with no other earnings may never have filed a return. One who also has rent or salary files an ITR and lists the farm income in the exempt income schedule. Either way, the return itself is in English. The Punjabi papers that back up the farm figure are what need translating.
The Sewa Kendra income certificate
The ਆਮਦਨ ਸਰਟੀਫਿਕੇਟ is applied for at a Sewa Kendra and signed by the ਤਹਿਸੀਲਦਾਰ after the patwari and the sarpanch report on the family's income. The printed form may be bilingual while the patwari's report attached to it is handwritten in Punjabi. We translate both, keep the annual income figure in rupees as written, and include the certificate number for verification.
Financial year and assessment year
Indian papers count the year from April to March, and an ITR names the assessment year that follows the income. So AY 2024-25 covers income earned from April 2023 to March 2024. When a Punjabi income certificate or affidavit refers to a year, we translate the reference as written and spell out the months, so no one lines it up with the wrong US tax year.
Who is asking for your Punjabi tax return translation?
The translation is the same. What changes is whether the recipient wants anything added to it.
USCIS and the National Visa Center
Sponsors filing an affidavit of support, and applicants proving income, submit tax returns with a complete English translation and a signed certification. No notarization is needed.
IRCC accepts a certified translation with the translator's affidavit. Order the certified translation and add notarization if your application guide asks for it.
A mortgage lender or a tax office assessing foreign income accepts a certified translation of the return and its schedules. Ask whether they want a hard copy and add it at checkout.
Three things that save a day of back and forth on a Punjabi tax return.
01
Send the filed return, not the draft
The recipient wants the version the tax office accepted, with its filing stamp, receipt number or online confirmation. Include the confirmation page if your return was filed electronically.
02
Include every schedule and attachment
The income summary on the first page refers to schedules behind it. A consulate or a lender reading the total will look for the pages that support it.
03
Give us the taxpayer name as the passport spells it
Taxpayer numbers, amounts and the currency are copied exactly as printed. Tell us the English spelling of each name on the return so it matches the rest of your file.
Details and pricing
What is included in a Punjabi tax return translation
One price per page covers the translation and its certification. A page is up to 250 words, and the quote tells you the page count before you pay.
Everything on the tax return is translated, including stamps, seals and handwritten notes. Tell us the English spelling you use for each name when you order.
Do I need to translate my Indian ITR acknowledgement?
No. The ITR-V acknowledgement, Form 16 and the computation from your accountant are in English. Send them as they are. Translation is for the Punjabi pages in the same set, such as an income certificate, a patwari report or an affidavit of income on stamp paper.
What shows which crops we actually grow?
The khasra girdawari. The patwari records the crop on each khasra number at every harvest, rabi and kharif, and the extract is in Gurmukhi. With the mandi sale receipts it backs up the farm income on an income certificate. We translate the crop names, the seasons and the area for each field.
My income certificate and my ITR show different figures. Is that a problem?
It is common. The income certificate counts the family's whole income, farm income included, while the return may show only salary or rent. We translate each figure as written and do not reconcile them. Your accountant or lawyer can explain the gap in a short note.
How much does a certified translation cost?
Certified translation is $25 per page, with a page counted as up to 250 words. Notarization, a mailed physical copy and an apostille are optional and priced separately.
How long does a certified translation take?
Standard turnaround starts at 24 hours and depends on the length and language of your documents. If you have a deadline, include it in your quote request.
