Hindi contract translation for a sale deed, rent agreement, agreement to sell, power of attorney, partnership deed or family settlement written in Hindi and registered in Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Haryana or Delhi. Indian commercial contracts are drafted in English; what comes to us in Hindi is the property and family paperwork from a sub-registrar's office, and we translate it into certified English for USCIS, a US court, a bank or a buyer.
Persian legalese, stamp paper and the endorsement on the back
A Hindi deed from a sub-registrar is written in a register no Hindi textbook teaches, and half of what a US reader needs is in the endorsements and stamps, not the clauses.
The words the deed uses
A sale deed is a बैनामा or विक्रय विलेख, a rent agreement a किरायानामा, an agreement to sell an इकरारनामा, a power of attorney a मुख्तारनामा, general or special, a mortgage a रहननामा, a gift a दानपत्र or हिबानामा, a will a वसीयतनामा. The parties are the विक्रेता and क्रेता, or in older deeds फ़रीक़ अव्वल and फ़रीक़ दोयम, first party and second party. Land is described by खसरा number, खाता and खतौनी, with area in बीघा and बिस्वा, units that differ from district to district, and the later mutation is the दाखिल ख़ारिज. We give the Hindi term once with its English and keep the local units with a note rather than converting them to acres.
Stamp paper and the registration endorsement
The first page is the stamp paper or the e-stamp certificate, and its duty figure tells a reader what value the deed was stamped on. The last page carries the sub-registrar's endorsement: book number, volume, page, document number, the date, and the parties' photographs and thumb impressions with a note that they admitted execution. A US bank reading the deed as proof of an asset for a visa, or a court dividing property in a divorce, needs those endorsements, because they are what makes the paper a registered deed. We translate the stamp certificate, the endorsement and the fee receipt line by line.
Family settlements and partition deeds
When a parent dies, brothers and sisters in Uttar Pradesh or Bihar often divide the land and the house by a पारिवारिक समझौता, a family settlement, or a बंटवारानामा, a partition deed. A memorandum recording a settlement already made may not need registration, while a deed that itself divides the property does. Either one lists each heir and the khasra numbers or rooms each takes. For a US probate court we translate the property schedule line by line, with plot numbers and areas as written.
Who is asking for your Hindi legal contract translation?
The translation is the same. What changes is whether the recipient wants anything added to it.
Courts
A contract offered as evidence in a US court is filed with a complete English translation and a signed certification from the translator. Add notarization if the local rules ask for it.
Employment contracts and leases filed with a visa petition need a complete English translation and a signed certification from the translator. No notarization is needed.
Three things that save a day of back and forth on a Hindi legal contract.
01
Send the signed version with every annex
Schedules, annexes and the signature page are part of the contract. Upload the executed copy so the translation shows the signatures, initials and dates.
02
Tell us the terms you already use
If your company translates a term a certain way, or a party name has an official English form, put it in the order notes. The translation follows your list.
03
Say where the translation is going
A contract going to a court, a lender or USCIS needs a complete translation with a signed certification. Say in the order notes who will read it.
Details and pricing
What is included in a Hindi legal contract translation
One price per page covers the translation and its certification. A page is up to 250 words, and the quote tells you the page count before you pay.
Everything on the legal contract is translated, including stamps, seals and handwritten notes. Tell us the English spelling you use for each name when you order.
My rent agreement is a printed Hindi form with handwritten entries. Is that enough as proof we live together?
It is a common piece of I-130 and I-751 evidence when both spouses are named as tenants. We translate the printed form, the handwritten names, rent and dates, the landlord's signature and the notary's stamp. If the agreement has been renewed, send every copy in date order, so the officer sees that you lived there for the whole period and not for one short term.
I only have a photocopy of my grandfather's deed. Can I get a proper copy?
Yes. The sub-registrar's office keeps a copy of every registered deed in its books, and you can apply for a certified copy, the नकल, giving the book number, the year and the document number if you have them. In Uttar Pradesh more recent deeds can also be searched on the state's registration portal. We translate the certified copy, the copying office's endorsement included.
Does an agreement to sell prove that I own the plot?
No. An इकरारनामा records a promise to sell at an agreed price, often with an advance paid, and ownership passes only by a registered sale deed. The Supreme Court has held that a sale made through an agreement to sell and a power of attorney does not transfer title. A US lender or court reading the translation sees it called an agreement to sell, not a sale deed.
How much does a certified translation cost?
Certified translation is $25 per page, with a page counted as up to 250 words. Notarization, a mailed physical copy and an apostille are optional and priced separately.
How long does a certified translation take?
Standard turnaround starts at 24 hours and depends on the length and language of your documents. If you have a deadline, include it in your quote request.
