Punjabi contract translation for the agreements Punjabi families in the US hold back home: a theka lease on the farmland, an ikrarnama to sell a plot, a registered sale deed or a partnership deed. We translate the Gurmukhi into certified English for US tax, divorce, estate and lending files.
Most Punjabi contracts we see are about land, drafted by a deed writer at the tehsil on stamp paper, in a Gurmukhi full of revenue words that never made it into English.
Theka and the yearly rent
Families abroad often lease their farmland to a relative or a neighbour under a theka, a cash rent per acre for a crop year, sometimes renewed by a new page each year. The deed gives the rent, when it is paid, who pays for water and electricity, and the khasra numbers. US tax preparers and divorce lawyers read these for income, so we keep every figure and date exactly.
Kanal, marla and khasra numbers
Land is measured in kanal and marla, with 20 marla to a kanal and 8 kanal to an acre, and fields are called killa. Each parcel is identified by khewat, khatauni and khasra numbers from the jamabandi. We keep the units as written and add the acre figure only in a translator's note, never in place of the original, so nothing on the page is recalculated.
Ikrarnama, bainama and the endorsements
An ikrarnama is the agreement to sell, with the price, the earnest money paid and the date the sale deed must be registered. The bainama is the registered sale deed itself. Both carry e-stamp certificate numbers, thumb impressions, witnesses and the sub-registrar's endorsement on the reverse. Those endorsements prove registration, so we translate them in full.
Who is asking for your Punjabi legal contract translation?
The translation is the same. What changes is whether the recipient wants anything added to it.
Courts
A contract offered as evidence in a US court is filed with a complete English translation and a signed certification from the translator. Add notarization if the local rules ask for it.
Employment contracts and leases filed with a visa petition need a complete English translation and a signed certification from the translator. No notarization is needed.
Three things that save a day of back and forth on a Punjabi legal contract.
01
Send the signed version with every annex
Schedules, annexes and the signature page are part of the contract. Upload the executed copy so the translation shows the signatures, initials and dates.
02
Tell us the terms you already use
If your company translates a term a certain way, or a party name has an official English form, put it in the order notes. The translation follows your list.
03
Say where the translation is going
A contract going to a court, a lender or USCIS needs a complete translation with a signed certification. Say in the order notes who will read it.
Details and pricing
What is included in a Punjabi legal contract translation
One price per page covers the translation and its certification. A page is up to 250 words, and the quote tells you the page count before you pay.
Everything on the legal contract is translated, including stamps, seals and handwritten notes. Tell us the English spelling you use for each name when you order.
My contract is part English, part Punjabi. What gets translated?
Everything in Gurmukhi, including handwritten additions, stamps and endorsements. English printed text is carried over as it is so the translation mirrors the page. Deeds from Punjab often have an English heading over a Punjabi body, and the body is where the terms are.
Do you translate US contracts into Punjabi?
Yes. Employers, landlords and lenders sometimes give Punjabi-speaking clients a Gurmukhi copy to read before signing. Say whether the English version controls, and we add that clause to the translation. For contracts used in Pakistan, Urdu is usually the right choice over Shahmukhi Punjabi; ask us if you are unsure.
How are long sale deeds priced?
By page, at $25 for each page of up to 250 words. A registered bainama with its endorsement pages and the attached jamabandi copy is often six to ten pages. Upload the whole set and you see the total before paying.
How much does a certified translation cost?
Certified translation is $25 per page, with a page counted as up to 250 words. Notarization, a mailed physical copy and an apostille are optional and priced separately.
How long does a certified translation take?
Standard turnaround starts at 24 hours and depends on the length and language of your documents. If you have a deadline, include it in your quote request.
